Network Designer

Network Designer - Senior

Job Description: The desired candidate will support a program providing network operations and sustainment services (network management, information assurance services, training), network engineering services (network architecture, systems engineering, information assurance engineering, project management), and network information assurance services. This position requires that the candidate determine user requirements and design specifications for computer networks, and plan and implement network upgrades. Required Skills: Communicate with customers, sales staff, or marketing staff to determine customer needs. Determine specific network hardware or software requirements, such as platforms, interfaces, bandwidths, or routine schemas. Research and test new or modified hardware or software products to determine performance and interoperability. Design, build, or operate equipment configuration prototypes, including network hardware, software, servers, or server operation systems. Develop conceptual, logical, or physical network designs. Evaluate network designs to determine whether customer requirements are met efficiently and effectively. Develop and implement solutions for network problems. Explain design specifications to integration or test engineers. Adjust network sizes to meet volume or capacity demands. Must hold an active Top Secret/SCI clearance with Polygraph. Desired Skills: Develop or recommend network security measures, such as firewalls, network security audits, or automated security probes. Estimate time and materials needed to complete projects. Develop plans or budgets for network equipment replacement. Monitor and analyze network performance and data input/output reports to detect problems, identify inefficient use of computer resources, or perform capacity planning. Prepare detailed network specifications, including diagrams, charts, equipment configurations, and recommended technologies. Communicate with vendors to gather information about products, to alert them to future needs, to resolve problems, or to address system maintenance issues. Required Experience and Education: Minimum 6 years with a BS in Engineering, Science, or Mathematics, or equivalent education and experience. This position is contingent on contract award, with an anticipated start date of December 20, 2011.
