Job Description
Scottrade, Inc. has a Network Engineer position available in Scottsdale, AZ. The main purpose of this position is to plan, design, implement and support Scottrade’s corporate data communication hardware and software. Responsibilities for this position include installation, tailoring and configuring of local and remote routers/switches and the integration of data equipment hardware and software with current and future computer applications. Experience with Cisco products is a requirement.
Responsibilities:
- Provide overall support for branch and home office Network systems including routers, switches, and Network maintenance and support equipment.
- Interact with all data vendors to insure adequate service, support, and maintenance.
- Work with wiring contractors to oversee accurate installation of new wiring and cables.
- Participate in projects.
- Maintain proper system documentation and diagrams as it pertains to change management and control.
- Proactively monitor service level performance of hardware and software. Report any performance issues to Senior Network personnel, Manager of Network Services.
- Perform periodic analysis of data systems and makes recommendations to present to management.
- Review, plan, and evaluate network systems.
- Troubleshoot network systems and recommend improvements to network.
- Provide documentation/project tracking and management reporting.
- Provide tactical and strategic input on overall network planning and related projects.
- Install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain equipment.
- Ensure that network specifications comply with industry standards and protocols.
- Maintain network management packages.
- Monitor performance of network to ensure that failure of one segment does not have a significant impact on the whole system.
- Contact vendors and maintenance services for repair of faulty equipment.
- Interface with end-users and network operations personnel to implement network management criteria and specifications.
- Adhere to policies and procedures.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Fundamental understanding of networking concepts, practices and procedures.
- Strong people skills.

- Ability to handle multiple tasks.
- Basic level proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s Degree in MIS/Computer Science or equivalent experience is preferred.
- 3-5 years of experience in installation, tailoring and configuring of Cisco equipment required.
- 3-5 years experience in trouble shooting Network problems in a local and remote environment required.
- 2+ years experience in integration of desktop applications within a TCP/IP/Ethernet environment required.
- Experience in a high availability 24 x 7 environment.
- 1-3 years of customer service experience required.
- General ITIL or Service Management knowledge preferred.
