Network Engineer

 

Information Services and Technology (IST) seeks a network engineer to join an elite team responsible for the operation and support of MIT's core campus network infrastructure, supporting MIT's preeminent teaching, learning, and research environments. The team supports MIT's large, complex, and innovative Microsoft Exchange service and central Windows domain services.

 

Responsibilities include support, maintenance, and operation of the MIT's Windows Infrastructure Services; assisting with designing, provisioning, and the daily administration of a large Exchange environment; building and supporting Exchange infrastructure and providing support for SharePoint apps to tested prototypes; and developing technical standards. Will also evaluate new technologies and participate in the development of services, resolve complex problems, share on-call responsibilities, provide/maintain documentation, and ensure day-to-day operational stability of MIT network services. May act as technical lead on some projects and provide technical and operational support to other IT staff across MIT.

 

Requirements: demonstrated experience in system administration of a mission critical Microsoft SharePoint farm in a large enterprise; at least five years of Microsoft SQL administration experience, including SQL clustering on Windows 2008 Server platform; at least seven years of experience in Microsoft Windows Server and Domain administration roles in Enterprise level environment; experience scripting and programming in PowerShell, Perl, and VB; Web development experience on a SharePoint platform; and ability to work both independently and as part of team. Good communication skills essential. Experience with administration of Microsoft Exchange 2007 or later, VMware, and SCOM preferred; as is experience working directly and communicating effectively with customers (faculty, staff, and students), assessing their needs, and analyzing and resolving their problems.
