Network Engineer

Special Missions and Technologies (SMT) provides innovative solutions that address current complex problems for U.S. intelligence and operational commands. Description: Installs, configures, and supports an organization's local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), Agency Internet Network (AIN), Intranet and Internet and other data communications systems including satellites, or a segment of a network system. Maintains network hardware and software. Monitors network to ensure network availability to all system users and perform necessary maintenance to support network availability. May supervise other network support and client server specialists and plan, coordinate, and implement network security measures. Oversees network control center. Provides support to projects that involve networks. Performs a full range of complex network designs encompassing multiple technologies within a single network. Evaluates new network technologies and makes recommendations to project managers regarding the integration of these technologies into the existing network. Plans new configurations for integration into the network, using knowledge of the performance characteristics of the systems being added to the network and the specifications for network interfaces to insure effective integration and optimal network performance. Ensures that adequate and appropriate planning is provided for hardware and communications facilities to develop and implement methodologies for analysis, installation and support of voice communications systems. Provides support in the translation of business requirements into telecommunications (e.g., LAN, MAN, WAN, Voice and Video) requirements, designs and orders. The overarching INFOSEC and COMSEC security requirements for the Agency network add to the complexity of these positions. Required Skills A grade/level E06 position requires a minimum 10+ years of experience. Clearance required: Active Top Secret / SCI w Polygraph. Experience in the Intelligence Community with considerable knowledge of INFOSEC policies/procedures and Protection Level separation requirements Must have 8 - 10+ years of experience working in an Enterprise Network environment. Must possess good network troubleshooting skills Must have a strong fundamental understanding of LAN/WAN technology and protocols including routing, switching, routing protocols such as EIGRP, access control lists, IP addressing and subnetting and IPSec protocols Must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills Good interpersonal, organizational, writing, communication and briefing skills Experience creating appropriate network documentation Must display initiative and can work with little or no supervision Desired Skills: 10 years supervisory experience. Advanced degree a plus. Strong written and verbal skills as used in presentation, reports and instructional material for junior staff. A strong understanding of Type 1 cryptographic equipment from both an engineering and implementation perspective. 5+ years experience with: network security to include Cisco ASA 5550 series and Borderguard VPN appliances CISCO Certifications (CCNA, CCNP, etc.) desired Training or hands-on knowledge of common enterprise-grade firewall systems Training or hands-on knowledge of IPsec/GRE tunneling, VTC, VLANs Training or understanding of Agency INFOSEC processes relevant to closed interfaces or networks Training or understanding of OM within closed networks and interfaces Ability to translate user requirements into technical designs and implement code in short timeframes while remaining compliant with all relevant security frameworks Training or familiarity with modern software development process and technologies (eg, eclipse, vaa, cvs, junit, ant, apache tomcat, xml, etc) Demonstrated planning experience and organizational skills Ability to change priorities as needed within a fluid environment without productivity impacts Training or familiarity of MS Office to document and collaborate on network design Education and Experience: BS/BA degree required in Engineering, Science, Mathematics or related field. Must have 8 to 10 years relevant experience. Experience may substitute Education.
