Posted Position Title: Network Engineer Career Level: Experienced Function Engineering/Technology Function Segment: Product Design and Development Location: United States U.S. State, China or Canada Provinces: Pennsylvania City: Lawrence Park Postal Code: 16531-0001 Relocation Assistance No Role Summary/Purpose: Network Engineer will be responsible for developing Concepts Design Requirements for wired wireless network systems applications installed on locomotives, OHV products, Marine Stationary Mining products. You will work closely with a team of Software Engineers, Electrical Systems, Electrical Design, Mechanical Packaging Engineers, Communications Engineers, Requisition Engineers in the design, development, implementation validation of Network Requirements. Essential Responsibilities - Responsible for developing network and communication documents and requirements accommodating System - Subsystem Level requirements, Product Descriptions, Engineering Support Requests, and other input documents - Define network and communication requirements for application development - Define network and communication Validation Plans, as well as lead and execute Validation Testing - Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirement - Document technical data generated by the assigned project consistent with engineering policies and procedures - Provide timely communications on significant issues or developments - Participate on teams assigned to address organizational initiatives and generic issues - Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews - Self-starter and ability to lead the effort with minimum supervision Qualifications/Requirements: - Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or other Science or technical discipline - Minimum of 1 year of hands-on design implementation experience involving Engineering Systems, Software Engineering, and/or Electrical Design Additional Eligibility Qualifications GE will only employ those who are legally authorized to work in the United States for this opening. Desired Characteristics - Background in System design validation on systems involving microprocessors communication peripherals (Locomotive experience will be a bonus) - Experience of working in systems that involve Ethernet, TCP / IP, Short range / Long range wireless communication technology (WiFi, CDMA / GSM, etc.) - Embedded programming and/or experience with real time operating systems will be a plus (e.g. QNX) - Hands-on capability to handle test equipment tools (such as DOORS, scripting languages(e.g. Perl, Visual Basic, DOS), Excel data manipulation aspects(e.g. Condensing large amounts of information)) - Domain knowledge in Locomotive, OHV, Mining, Marine Systems and Railroad Operating Practices - Understanding and translating requirements for wired and wireless communications solutions - Understanding and translating requirements for Applications development for software solutions - Experience with DOORs Requirements Management Tools, ClearQuest Defect Tracking - Experience with System Testing Processes, Tools, Automation - Ability to implement customer and industry standards - Ability to work in a cross-functional, global environment - Ability to engage and build positive relationships with both customers and internal and external employees - Six Sigma training (GE employees only) - Understanding of quality model like ISO 9000, SEI-CMM - Strong oral and written communication skills - Strong interpersonal and leadership skills - Understanding of engineering standards like IEEE Why join one great company when you can join many?
