Job Description

Provides tier 3 support for the wide area telecommunications network (WAN) for Emerson Telecommunications Services (ETS). Supports and monitors the WAN and all supporting systems through the Change Request Form (CRF) workflow. Works with the other members of the help desk team to respond to customers’ Service Requests (SR) based on customer urgency and ETS severity codes.

PRINCIPAL FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Detailed understanding of the function and configuration of Cisco networking equipment

• Hands-on experience configuring and troubleshooting Cisco switches and routers

• Extensive experience administering and configuring layer 2 and layer 3 Cisco networks

• Advanced operational knowledge of VLANs, spanning tree, BGP and EIGRP

• Extensive experience with network monitoring tools. Ability to analyze data and deliver metrics associated with utilization, capacity and functional operation of the network

• Ability to comprehend and create complex network maps and drawings in standard design tools (i.e. Visio)

• Functional understanding of DNS, DHCP and related network services

• Advanced understanding of IP addressing including subnetting and supernetting

• Operational understanding of different media and cable types and their associated benefits and limitations

• Experience working from a ticketing system

• Provide proactive recognition and correction of network related problems

• Provide telephone based support for ETS services and functions for Level 3 problems forwarded from the customer

• Support problem resolution through to customer agreed closure of division generated CRF and SR

• Liaise with other ETS functional groups to progress CRF and SR through the workflow process

• Provide support to customers and staff during new installations

• Provide the coordination of repair and restoral efforts of various service providers, including monitoring services, telecommunication providers and ISPs.

• Work with various customer and ETS support groups in diagnosing ETS service related problems

• Ability to perform maintenance activities outside of normal business hours

• This position requires weekend hours

EDUCATION / LANGUAGE

• Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems or equivalent work experience

• Fluent in English, both written and verbal

EXPERIENCE / SKILLS

• 3 or more years working with Cisco networking and switching infrastructures

• Cisco CCNA, CCNP (preferred) or equivalent work experience

• Experience with or exposure to Cisco VoIP platforms preferred
