The Network Security Consultant utilises extensive business knowledge and strong technical experience of security to provide a secure information environment for the business. Current security technologies include Firewalls, IDS / IPS, Vulnerability Scanning, VPN, Domain Name Services (DNS),  and Proxy. The purpose of the position is to provide effective Information Security services that:

•Continuously protect State Street’s critical information assets and brand name.
•Assure compliance with corporate and regulatory policies/standards industry best practices.
•Simplify, enhance and enable business initiatives.
•Ensure a strong control environment that safeguards corporate assets.
•Partner with IT and business groups in analysing, developing and implementing secure solutions.

This position includes responsibilities of a security engineer with a focus on the configuration, deployment and support of enterprise network-based security solutions.  The individual will be responsible for developing functional understanding and proficiency with corporate security standards and service offerings as well as emerging technologies.  The position will focus on engineering support of platforms in the Network Security Engineering (NSE) team.  The individual will participate strategically in project teams throughout the engineering technology life cycle including planning, design, implementation and ongoing operations of new technologies into the network. Additionally the candidate will be responsible for the following:

•Contribute to the development and implementation of comprehensive technology solutions in a complex global network environments consisting of 100+ sites distributed throughout North America, Europe Middle East and Africa [EMEA], Asia Pacific and Australia
•Participate substantively in strategic initiatives.
•Address problems and issues that have major impact on business units.
•Work cross-functionally to accomplish overall objectives.

The candidate must have very strong oral and written communication skills.  They must be comfortable working with executive-level staff throughout the full life-cycle of network engineering projects. S/He must demonstrate the ability to assess business requirements and define technological and secure solutions that will meet current requirements and scale in support of future growth. S/He must be a team player and equally comfortable in both mentoring and peer-oriented roles. The candidate should have a "passion" about network security, IT audit, and networking solutions that drives consistent high-quality delivery and business interaction.

Minimum Qualifications
•Bachelor's Degree or equivalent (Concentration in MIS/Engineering preferred)
•Proven relevant industry experience (financial industry preferred)
•Experience working in complex global network environments consisting of 100+ sites distributed throughout North America, Europe Middle East and Africa [EMEA], Asia Pacific and Australia
•Intelligent Network Services – Strong knowledge, product support experience
•Checkpoint and Netscreen Firewalls
•Internet Security System (ISS) Proventia
•Application secure gateways (ASG) – Neoteris/Juniper IVE
•Bluecoat Proxy services and Domain Name Service (DNS)
•User authentication methods (i.e. Radius, LDAP, ACE)
•Content-based networking (Cisco Content Data Networking Products:  CSS, CSM, GSS)
•Virtual Private Networks (VPN) client-to-gateway and gateway-to-gateway
•Server Based Skills
•One or more of the following:  MCSE, Solaris (SCSA)/AIX (CSE)/UNIX)
•Product Installation support
•Knowledge of web, http, https, and related protocols
•Strong knowledge of Internetworking Technologies
•Routing , Switching, Transport Services, Firewalls, IDS/IPS
•Fluent in TCP/IP protocol analysis and structured approach to trouble shooting
•Understanding of network and application level security parameters necessary to facilitate the design and deployment of secure network solutions

Additional Desired (but not a pre-requesite) Qualifications
•Experience working with the following operating systems: Unix, Microsoft Operating Systems, Cisco Routers,
•Consulting experience working with complex operating and development environments preferred
•Experience performing vulnerability assessments, penetration testing and host-based security auditing
•Experience researching vulnerabilities and developing mitigation / remediation strategies to address these concerns
•Experience working with IT audit for internal and external compliance assessments.
•Consultative experience in related industry
•Working familiarity with a structured plan, design and implementation engineering methodology

Alternatively the candidate can also be based in Edinburgh or Dublin.
