Position Summary
Accountable for infrastructure development (research, design and implementation) and operational activities, as well
as maintenance/enhancement of computer and network technologies supporting the information technology (IT) needs of the corporation. The infrastructure technologies supported/developed will focus on network, server, system software, storage, database or workstation components, requiring the individual to be competent in IT processes, software languages and tools.
Expected to develop relationships with technical and non-technical customers, co-workers, consultants and vendors
while continuing to research and advance technical prowess. Has substantial knowledge in one area of IT
infrastructure and a broad based understanding of other major technologies. Demonstrated commitment to design
and operational excellence.
Primary Responsibilities
1. Accountable for providing functionality and for assuring reliability and availability of computing infrastructure through
either a design or operational perspective, requiring difficult problem solving with little or no assistance and supervision within time constraints. This may require 24x7 availability for critical components and systems. Maintains ownership and accountability for the "health" of certain technologies being supported. Serves as the point of contact for specific infrastructure components and services.
2. Performs and may guide others in performing, the design or operation of a full range of infrastructure technologies
and processes needed to provide solutions to complex IT services, problems, or opportunities. Performs assigned
duties independently, has latitude for making design and operational decisions on a technology component level, and
discusses or seeks approval on more complex/broader issues with the Supervisor, Lead Technologist, or Senior
Technologist.
3. Assists in project management activities by contributing to the development of project plans, estimating work, task
scheduling, assigning work, cost/benefit analysis and progress reporting. May perform the full range of project
management activities for small to medium scale projects. Assists Supervisor or Lead Technologist by
recommending project resource needs, i.e., technical group staffing, customer and Information Solutions involvement,
equipment, etc.
4. Builds partnerships with internal customers and collaborates with vendors, consultants, and other ISD personnel to
achieve solutions to the defined technical and business needs. This can include training customers on end user
products, new services and core technologies.
5. Assists with planning, directing and reviewing the day-to-day work of other team members. Assists in training
technical staff on technical tools and new technologies.
6. Provides technical guidance and IT process expertise on projects or system issues to other infrastructure group
staff. Demonstrate a commitment to design and operational excellence.
7. Committed to continuous learning and strives to increase relative skills and knowledge required for position. Keeps
abreast of the latest developments in information technology. Is committed to continuous improvement of the
technologies, support services and processes being delivered to support the Corporation's IT needs.
Candidate Qualifications
Candidates must meet the basic qualifications to receive consideration.
Basic Qualifications
1. Two-year college degree or high school diploma.
2. Eight (8) or more years relevant IT experience.
Preferred Qualifications
1. BS or BA in Computer Science, Math, Engineering or Other Technical Field; or non-technical BS/BA with 4 or more
years relevant IT experience.
2. Two (2) or more years experience in a large-scale hardware and software platforms in multi-technology
environments.
3. Moderate knowledge in most major infrastructure technologies (network, server, system software, storage,
database or workstation hardware and software).
