Network Engineer - Expert
Job Description: The desired candidate will support a program providing network operations and sustainment services (network management, information assurance services, training), network engineering services (network architecture, systems engineering, information assurance engineering, project management), and network information assurance services.
Required Skills:
- Performs a full range of complex network designs encompassing multiple technologies within a single network.
- Evaluates new network technologies and makes recommendations to project managers regarding the integration of these technologies into the existing network.
- Plans new configurations for integration into the network, using knowledge of the performance characteristics of the systems and interfaces being added to the network to insure effective integration and optimal network performance.
- Provides support in the translation of business requirements into telecommunications (e.g., LAN, MAN, WAN, Voice and Video) requirements, designs and orders.
- The overarching INFOSEC and COMSEC security requirements for the Sponsor's network add to the complexity of these positions.
Must hold an active Secret clearance.
The candidate will be expected to:
- Prepare technical proposals for presentation to the Sponsor's engineering review boards for adding new technologies to the network.
- Review user requests for upgrades or additions to the network to assess impact on network performance and provide advice and guidance on the most practical technical approach to meeting user requirements.
- Provide fault management designs for the network and support performance management functions.
- Coordinate with configuration management and implementation teams.
- Analyze network characteristics (e.g., traffic, connect time, transmission speeds, packet sizes, and throughput) and recommend procurement, removals, and modifications to network components.
- Design and optimize network topologies and site configurations.
- Coordinate requirements with users and suppliers.
- Ensure these systems and applications are compliant with standards for open systems architectures, reference models, and profiles of standards - such as the IEEE Open Systems Environment (OSE) reference model - as they apply to the implementation and specification of solutions on the application platform.
Required Experience and Education: Minimum 8 years with a BS in Engineering, Science, or Mathematics, or equivalent education and experience.
This position is contingent on contract award, with an anticipated start date of December 20, 2011.
