Specific Job Description The USSS plans to modernize its IT Infrastructure following a recent Stabilization effort that provided form, fit, and function replacement of obsolete, end-of-life equipment. As such, the USSS intends to maximize reuse of the stabilized hardware and software in the modernization effort. The Lead Network Engineer will lead the effort to modernize the USSS network infrastructure into a hierarchical architecture by concentrating modernization efforts across four infrastructure service areas: (1) core network configuration; (2) regional or distributed networks; (3) infrastructure operations; and (4) centralized monitoring. Standard Job Description Manages the designs and plans of network communications systems. Responsible for coordinating subordinate employee recruitment, selection and training, performance assessment, work assignments, salary, and recognition/disciplinary actions. Oversees specifications and detailed schematics for network architecture. Insures that specific detailed information for hardware and software selection, implementation techniques and tools for the most efficient solution to meet business needs, including present and future capacity requirements, are provided. Directs the conducting of network design testing. Insures technical expertise in all areas of network and computer hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, such as routers, multiplexers, firewalls, hubs, bridges, gateways, etc. is maintained. Evaluates and reports on new communications technologies to enhance capabilities of the network.
