POSITION As a Network Research Engineer, you will design, develop, test and analyze network protocols and Internet systems that challenge today's best practices by applying software paradigms to networking stacks. You will work with wide range of vendors from chipset manufacturers to network equipment vendors to demonstrate research ideas. The field of research spans from today's network and transport protocols to Software-Defined Networks (SDN) in broadband and Wi-Fi networks. FUNCTIONS - Be the lead research engineer on Software-Defined Networks working with cable operator network engineers, university research entities and vendors to drive SDN developments in broadband and Wi-Fi networks - Contribute to the design and development of programmable networks - Develop software - Work with the vendor and research community to move select research topics to the field by testing product concepts and prototypes on cable networks - Publish research papers and participate in the research community in the Internet protocols and SDN fields QUALIFICATIONS - A passion for making "things" better through programming and answering "why does it matter" questions is an absolute requirement. - MS required; completed or work-in-progress PhD is a plus. - Recent publications demonstrating active research in the networking space - Strong C programming with networking stacks is required; experience with collaborative opensource projects, programmable network processor development and microcode is a plus. - Working data networking knowledge including IPv4-IPv6, TCP, UDP, SCTP, DCCP, Ethernet, Wi-Fi 802.11 - Knowledge and interest in implementing OpenFlow and FORCES (IETF RFC 3746, RFC 5810) is a plus REPORTS TO - Engineering Manager Join TEKsystems ® and get your career on the fast track.
