Network Security Specialist

Job Description: Raytheon is supporting a proprietary customer contract for delivering technical support to customer management and providing resources for the technical services required to enable customer mission accomplishment. In support of the customer's strategic direction, Raytheon is looking for key individuals who can support the protection of the customer environment. A specialist in computer network security is needed to support the customer team. The network security specialist will examine malicious software, suspicious network activities, and non-authorized presence in the network to analyze the nature of the threat, and secure and monitor network protection equipment configurations. The network security specialist needs to understand threat attack capabilities, their propagation characteristics, and define signatures for detecting malware presence. By understanding the network principles and security, this expert can build a robust network that provides the proper functionality and correct level of security.

Responsibilities will include :

- Recommend hardware, software, and develop policies and procedures to investigate malware incidents for multiple networks

- Facilitate the maintenance of the information system security posture across multiple networks

- Perform computer security functions

- Assist in the development and delivery of malware security awareness products and briefings

- Participate in technical meetings and working groups to address issues related to malware security and vulnerabilities

- Coordinate technical upgrades, repairs and patches, modifications, or replacement of information security tools and technologies.

- Serve as SME for technical investigations of security violations.

- Determine corrective actions, prepare and submit reports in accordance with government and corporate directives.

- Anticipate and identify threats and vulnerability through monitoring and analysis.

- Design and deploy cyber security threat assessment processes including the development of detailed operational procedures.

- Perform other Network Security/Information Assurance tasks as assigned.

- Recommend configuration changes to improve the performance, usability, and value of cyber analysis tools.

- Provide technical training to cyber incident response analysts.

- Resolves and/or escalates issues in a timely fashion.

- Collaborate with a wide range of personnel to facilitate an effective malware program

- Prepare, write, and present reports and briefings as required

- Thoroughly investigate instances of malicious code to determine attack vector and payload, and to determine the extent of damage and data exfiltration. Provide detailed reports of any findings

- Conduct reverse-engineering for known and suspected malware files

- Develop analysis and make recommendations for the purchase of hardware and software that will mitigate malware intrusions

- Identifies risks to computer systems and makes written and verbal recommendations to senior customer representatives

- Provide guidance to affect security of architectures while conducting movement of resources

- Participates in special projects as required

Required Skills:

- Must be a US Citizen
- Must have active Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) security clearance

- Extensive experience with system and security design and architecture

- Experience with software development

- Strong understanding of executable packing and malware analysis

- Strong understanding of binary file formats and runtime debugging

- Strong understanding of windows and UNIX operating systems

- Demonstrated ability to manage teams

- Minimum of 5 years experience in network security in a heterogeneous environment running Linux, Windows, Mac and other applications

- Experience with network security, incident response, intrusion detection, forensics, and/or vulnerability assessments.

- Incident response or digital forensics experience.

- Experience in leveraging advanced tools such as VMware, Encase, or visualization/visual analysis/entity extraction tools.

- Experience in developing system to protect against cyber intrusions and respond to major disruptions.

- Ability to gather and present data in appropriate formats (text, flowcharts, graphs, spreadsheets)

- Understanding of security technologies and concepts, experience in design and implementation of secure network solutions including DMZs and web portals
- Knowledge of Information Assurance and Information Operations technologies and development activities.
- Possesses or quickly develop a comprehensive understanding of Government Information Security policies, regulations, and guidelines.

- Must be able to work collaboratively across agencies and physical locations

Desired Skills:

- 8 years+ related experience
- Experience supporting Intelligence and/or DoD Customers

- Experience with process development and deployment

- Hands-on network/packet-level examination experience desired

- Hands-on experience with Cisco's network and security devices is a plus.

- Hands-on network packet level intrusion detection experience.

- Knowledge of hacking tools and techniques (e.g. buffer overflows, ARP poisoning, browser attacks, phishing, DNS poisoning)

- Experience in using virtual computing environments such as VMware.

- Experience conducting computer forensics using tools such as EnCase Forensics and EnCase Enterprise

- Experience configuring and using HBGary products to include Responder, Digital DNA and Recon

- Experience conducting hands on usage of network analysis tools such as wireshark and tcpdump

- Experience with one or more of the following:

- Security COTS integration

  • Operating System Hardening
  • Vulnerability Assessment testing
  • Identification and Authentication schemes
  • Public Key Infrastructure and Identity Management
  • Cross Domain Solutions
  • Computer Network Exploitation (CNE)
  • Computer Network Operations (CNO)
  • Malware Analysis
  • Reverse Software Engineering

    - Excellent writing skills

    Required Education:
    BS Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Assurance/Security, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering OR Computer Systems Engineering. Must have a minimum of 6 years experience or equivalent education and experience. Masters Degree preferred.

    Desired Certifications:
    DODI 8570.1-M Compliance at IAT Level II; CISSP preferred

    One or more of the following: MSCE, CCNA, CCNP, CCSP, CCIE
