Job Description: The desired candidate will support a program providing network operations and sustainment services (network management, information assurance services, training), network engineering services (network architecture, systems engineering, information assurance engineering, project management), and network information assurance services. The candidate will analyze, test, and evaluate network systems, such as wide area networks (WAN), internet, intranet, and other data communications systems. The candidate will have knowledge with telecommunications infrastructure and the ability to deal with the interfacing of computer and communications equipment. The candidate will perform network administration, including performing tasks to install, configure, and support the organization's WAN, network segment, and internet functions. They maintain network hardware and software, analyze problems, and monitor the network to ensure availability to system users. The candidate may also coordinate and implement network security measures. The candidate may supervise other network specialists. Desired Skills: Monitor system performance and provide security measures, troubleshooting and maintenance as needed. Assist users to diagnose and solve data communication problems. Design and implement network configurations, and network architecture, including hardware and software technology, site locations, and integration of technologies. May propose solutions to management to ensure all communications requirements based on future needs and current usage, configuring such solutions to optimize cost savings. Identify areas of operation that need upgraded equipment such as modems, fiber optic cables, and telephone wires. Train users in use of equipment. Develop and write procedures for installation, use, and troubleshooting of communications hardware and software. Work with other engineers, systems analysts, programmers, technicians, scientists and top-level managers in the design, testing and evaluation of systems. Test and evaluate hardware and software to determine efficiency, reliability, and compatibility with existing system, and make purchase recommendations. Read technical manuals and brochures to determine which equipment meet establishment requirements. Have detailed knowledge of SNMP, SNMPv2, and SNMPv3 network management protocols. Have detailed knowledge of router network management multiplexers, firewalls, hubs, bridges, gateways, etc.. May coordinate third-party maintenance for network equipment. Required Experience and Education: Minimum 8 years with a BS in Engineering, Science, or Mathematics, or equivalent education and experience.
