Job Title: Network Technician Job Description: JOB PURPOSE: Actively assist in the installation, support, and ongoing maintenance of Midcontinent and customer networks, while providing optimal internal customer service. Serve as Midcontinent's professional representative when interacting with internal and external contacts. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: * Support the mission, vision, and values of Midcontinent Communications (MC). * Communicate effectively and professionally with internal and external contacts. * Effectively participate in the installation and ongoing maintenance of Midcontinent and customer networks, and actively support various groups within MC by helping to resolve escalated issues and problems. * Function as an effective group member; support the efforts and concepts of other departments including, but not limited to the Operations, Finance, Technology, and Media groups. * Apply personal ethics, honesty, initiative, flexibility, responsibility and confidentiality in all areas of responsibility. * Maintain clean driving record and regular attendance to meet customer demand and support customer satisfaction. * Apply a positive customer service attitude in interactions with all internal customers. * Be able to meet the physical demands of the job within the prescribed work environment. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES : * Successfully support installations and maintenance of MC and customer networks. * Effectively assist in the implementation and documentation of LAN, WAN, and MAN networks. * Actively participate in the network management and maintenance of routers, switches, optical shelves, etc, and provide assistance handling network outages and problems. * Proactively ensure that the MC network is secure from outside attack or penetration. * Train Technology Group and other group members as necessary. * Provide effective problem solving support for a variety of MC groups, including Customer Service, Engineering, NOC, etc. Report significant activity to the NOC and keep detailed statistics regarding these activities. * Cultivate productive relationships with other MC groups, such as Customer Service, Field OPS, etc. * Effectively work with vendors to assist in design, installation, and troubleshooting. * Provide assistance with projects, including diagramming, reporting, documenting, time management, etc. * Ensure viable disaster recovery and back up plans are in place for all systems. * Drive Company vehicles safely, courteously, and defensively; schedule appropriate maintenance as required. * Oversee the development of system utilities and tools. * Manage assigned projects successfully and effectively coordinate efforts between multiple groups. * Provide effective on call support and be prepared to work other than regular business hours as necessary. * Communicate and maintain up-to-date, accurate documentation for passwords, diagrams, security, etc. * Proactively identify opportunities for improvement and offer viable recommendations. * Effectively communicate with other departments to handle any escalating issues in a timely manner. * Mentor new hires and existing staff as required. * Be willing to work on special projects as assigned. * Actively participate in group efforts to support customer satisfaction. * Compile timely, comprehensive, and accurate reports as requested. * Adhere to company privacy guidelines to ensure each customer's and employee's privacy is protected. * Perform other duties as assigned. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS: * Maintain current, valid driver's license and good to excellent driving record (DUI within the last 5 years disqualifies you for employment in this position). * Be ready, willing, and able to travel by air or by ground as necessary. * Prioritize effectively, manage time well, and consistently meet deadlines. * Communicate professionally, both verbally and in writing, with internal and external customers. * Demonstrate initiative and self-motivation; multi-task and be versatile. * Possess a comprehensive understanding of various MC network systems and components. * Maintain professional demeanor; work effectively with minimal supervision. * Apply common sense understanding in carrying out detailed written or oral instructions. Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. * Demonstrate exceptional group development skills, a broad range of departmental experience, and a positive, proactive attitude to excel in this position. * Identify opportunities for improvement; create and offer viable solutions. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: * High school diploma or GED required (Bachelor's Degree preferred). * One year network experience required.
