Network Technician (TELUS Optic TV Master Control Centre) Job in Edmonton, Alberta Canada
Program NFL, NHL, PPV and specialty content services.
Program channel substitutions in accordance with current broadcast practices.
Program all blackouts as outlined by broadcasters and sports affiliates.
Ensure assets are ready for air or transfer such that scheduled air dates are adhered to.
Update trouble reports, substitution logs, and traffic logs to ensure proper execution of pre-programmed services.
Participate in team meetings and complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
- Proficiency in interpreting job documentation.
- Knowledge of Asynchronous Transport Network Elements and Services
- Knowledge of Transport / Data / Broadcast products and services for business.
- Knowledge of Broadcast Network and it's various components.
- Knowledge of inside and outside plant facilities.
- Knowledge of UHF, VHF, RF, HF, IR Radio Applications and Principals.
- Knowledge of Microwave Radio Applications and Principals.
- Knowledge of TCP/IP Networks.
- Knowledge of DC power and auxiliary power systems.
- Must have a valid class 5 Driver's License
- Knowledge of and demonstrated ability to isolate and resolve troubles in access systems, SONET transport technologies, EDSX cross-connects, VoIP, and synchronization as they relate to installation, commissioning, maintenance, administration, and surveillance
- Demonstrated effective decision-making skills while under limited supervision.
- Knowledge of network technology, architecture and elements, and a strong understanding of their associated inter-workings.
- Knowledge of circuit wiring, transmission parameters and testing.
- Knowledge of automated provisioning, ticketing, testing and dispatch systems.
- Knowledge of maintenance practices/routines on network elements.
- Knowledge of installation and repair practices, policies, and procedures.
- Knowledge of products and services for business and residential customers.
- Must be able to understand and effectively perform work in accordance with published work plans.
- Normal colour vision to work with colour-coded wiring.
- Must be able to operate hand and power tools, and test equipment.
- Must be willing and able to work various shifts as assigned (such as evenings, weekends and statutory holidays), based on business needs.
- Must be willing and able to work in confined spaces
- Must possess Personal Computer navigational skills.
- Demonstrated professional oral and written communications skills.
- Self-motivated, work well with minimal or no direct supervision.
- Ability to effectively handle both favourable and unfavourable customer interactions.
