Our client is the UK market leader in Renewable Technologies specialising in Hot and Cold Water Storage Cylinders, Solar Thermal Systems and Heat Pump Products.

They currently have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Research and Development Engineer to join their team based in Wakefield, West Yorkshire. The main purpose of this role will be dealing with the day to day management of several projects including the adaption of existing products to new applications in hot water storage, particularly regarding interaction with renewable energy. Within this role your main responsibilities will include implementing best practice relating to product design for performance enhancement and cost reduction, developing testing with existing facilities to ensure that new products are tested to required standards and providing technical input into key projects. An organised, structured approach to product design is required, including production of trial samples, recording of test data and presenting findings for approval You will also be expected to trouble shoot and fault find, dealing with problems as they arise and interface with component and raw material suppliers to continually improve their products.

The successful candidate will have vast experience within a similar role in a medium to large manufacturing environment and will ideally hold a recognised qualification in an engineering or science related subject. You should have an understanding of construction industry legislation for both the UK and EU markets or be prepared to quickly develop this knowledge. You will have knowledge of product design, materials properties, limits and fits of tolerance and product costing along with a familiarity with materials testing and analysis techniques. It is essential that you are computer literate with the ability to prepare technical reports whilst having excellent communication skills and the confidence to deal effectively with people at all levels. Experience of metallurgy and fabrication techniques (in particular with Stainless Steel) would be advantageous as would experience of water heating systems and heat transfer mechanisms.
