Title: New Product Designer/Engineer
Report to: New Business Manager
Job Location: Buffalo, NY
Job Summary
Provide up-front, design services for customers in the petrochemical, oil and gas, power generation and air separation markets, based upon the information provided from marketing team and customer specifications. Track and schedule all aspects of projects. Provide detailed information to engineering and manufacturing teams for successful completion of awarded project.
General Duties and Responsibilities
· Analysis of marketing and customer information including drawings, specifications (mechanical, electrical, painting, welding, non-destructive testing, etc.).
· Design and develop standardized product line designs usine .
· Modify existing designs into marketable product line offerings; focus on design optimization, cost reduction and manufacturability.
· Provide technical information and completed drawings to production for manufacture of equipment.
· Creation of inquiries to sub-suppliers for the purpose of component selection and or costing.
· Follow up with customer engineers for technical clarifications as necessary.
· Work with Project Manager to help track project cost estimates and all necessary technical data from start to completion of project.
· Create 3-D models of packaged piping systems by following both a schematic flow diagram and bill of material.
· Create / revise detailed drawings from 3-D models for production.
· Liaison between manufacturing, engineering and CADD departments.
· Run plots or copies of drawings, coordinate with Document Control to maintain drawing log books.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
· Skill to use a personal computer and various software packages.
· Proficient with 3-D modeling software, SolidWorks preferred.
· General knowledge of rotating equipment terminology such as pumps, gears, compressors, motors, steam turbines, turbo-expanders, and generators.
· General knowledge of ASTM structural steel material standards for shapes, plate, forgings, castings, bolting.
· General knowledge of heat transfer, filtration, control valve application, instrumentation selection.
· General knowledge of NEC (National Electric Code) and other international electrical codes such as IEC and CSA.
· Ability to communicate clearly with clients and sub-suppliers on a regular basis, both verbally and in writing.
· Ability to run multiple projects.
· Experience in developing highly engineered product lines.
· Additional skills preferred but not required:
· General knowledge of ANSI B31.3 and B31.1 piping standards and ASME.
· General knowledge of API standards (including but not limited to API-614, API-610, API-611, API-617, API-619, API-676)
Credentials and Experience
* 4 year degree
* 2-4 years administrative experience
* Equivalent combination of education and experience.
