What is a Newton employee profile?

Newton has a 'thematic' investment process that looks to identify the key social, economic and political changes in the world and then uses these changes to identify investment opportunities. This discipline means that we have investment professionals from a wide variety of academic backgrounds, not just those that you would typically associate with investment. We have people from social sciences, arts and humanities working within our investment team and in other senior roles. We are primarily interested in an individual's ability to follow independent thought processes to reach well-argued conclusions. Newton look for individuals who demonstrate a genuine interest in the world and how it is developing. We prize the ability to think laterally and consider the bigger picture, as well as the ability to focus on the detail. We look for individuals who are comfortable working independently as well as in a team environment. Newton’s environment and work ethic is a professional one, so enthusiasm and self-motivation is a must. Strong verbal/written communication skills and numerical competency is essential (and we test this in the interview process). Excellent degree-level academics are highly valued. Some knowledge of, and a passionate interest in, the investment management industry will be expected.
