NOC Operator Tier 1 Job in Reston 20191, Virginia US
Overview:
The successful candidate will be a technical contributor in LightSquared’s Satellite Network Operations team performing Tier1 Network Monitoring and Support of LightSquared’s Next Generation Satellite Based Network.
Responsibilities:
- Monitor Satellite Network components and applications to ensure uninterrupted service to the LightSquared Satellite Based Network
- Operate network monitoring and management tools, perform initial diagnosis of network troubles, when necessary direct the repair of any network troubles, and escalate to Tier II and Tier III level
- Isolate and document network incidents following troubleshooting procedures, leveraging industry best practice troubleshooting skills, Network Management tools, and the LightSquared Trouble Ticketing System (Remedy)
- Update documentation to record new equipment installed, new sites, and changes to configurations.Complete regularly scheduled network back ups. Maintain Incident Management system and enforce our escalation policy within LightSquared to ensure Incident resolution.
- Produce a detailed monthly reporting package for internal customers.
- Perform other duties as assigned by NOC supervisor or NOC manager.
This position is part of a 24x7x365 team and will require shift work (8, 10 or 12 hour shifts) that includes days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
Qualifications
- Associate Degree, Technical Diploma or combination of education and work experience
- This position requires at least 3-5 years of Network Operations experience of Satellite and/or telecommunications networks, such as fixed or mobile satellite or wireless networks, terrestrial long distance voice/data or IP networks
- Ability to troubleshoot network problems effectively in a Network Operations environment
- Strong commitment towards customer service and ensuring a high Network Availability
- Desire and ability to learn new technologies and communication protocols
- Knowledge of key Operations related ITIL practices (i.e. Incident Management and Change Management) are an asset
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and to plan, coordinate and set priorities
- Maintain a broad knowledge of all products, service and NOC procedures
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Excellent analytical, organizational, multitasking, prioritizing, and teamwork skills
- Certified CCNA is an asset
- Basic computer skills, with experience working in a Windows environment
- Previous experience with Remedy and Netcool is an asset
- For most positions, candidates must meet eligibility requirements for ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulation) Programs
