Recently, we have integrated cardiac surgeons from the two prominent local practices into the PinnacleHealth Cardiovascular Institute. Performing nearly 600 open heart surgeries each year, our OR is highly experienced and of a superb quality for our patients.
Summary:
Performs a critical role in formulating and coordinating the cardiovascular surgery program at the PinnacleHealth (PINNACLE HEALTH) Cardiovascular Institute. Responsible for planning, directing, and controlling the operations and activities within the cardiovascular surgery area. Directs and coordinates functions related to quality, cost, and patient care. Develops operating and capital budgets, including innovative mechanisms to increase productivity. Plans the course of the cardiovascular surgery program to meet financial/budgetary requirements.
Primary Duties:
- Provides leadership and guidance in the overall operation and growth of the open heart surgery program.
- Develops comprehensive, innovative, realistic goals for the open heart surgery program in collaboration with the Vice President and Chief of Cardiovascular Surgery.
- Assists with all logistics supporting the consolidation and planning process for open heart surgery services within the Cardiovascular Institute.
- Recruits, interviews, hires, counsels, and terminates professional and support staff.
- Determines the levels of personnel, equipment, and other resources necessary for the functioning of areas of responsibility.
- Ensures compliance with all safety, procedural, and accrediting standards.
- Identifies departmental program changes while developing and implementing strategies to provide cost-effective services.
- Develops, reviews, and revises departmental policies and procedures.
- Analyzes, re-engineers, and evaluates systems and processes in order to maximize utilization of resources.
- Participates either directly or indirectly with research activity related to the cardiovascular surgery program.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor of Science degree in nursing. Master's degree in healthcare management, nursing administration, or a related field is desirable. Four or more years of experience in a supervisory position are preferred. Must be licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing. Must demonstrate knowledge of management techniques, the nursing process, interpersonal relationship skills, and group dynamics.
