WOMEN’S HEALTH NURSE PRACTITIONER

 

1.         QUALIFICATIONS.    

 

1.1         Graduation from an accredited baccalaureate degree program in nursing (BSN) acceptable to the USAF Surgeon General.

 

1.2         Hold a Master’s degree from an approved OB/GYN or women’s health nurse practitioner program or Advance Certification (Certificate of Authority) acceptable to the USAF Surgeon General.

 

1.3         License. The nurse practitioner must have an approved and current Nurse Practitioner's license

 

1.4         Experience.  Shall have a minimum of 24 months within the past 36 months of clinical practice experience.

 

1.5         Posses a certification with the National Certification Corporation for Obstetrics, Gynecologic, and Neonatal Nursing Specialties.

 

1.6         Knowledge of professional care theories, principles, practices, and procedures to   provide comprehensive women’s health care throughout the lifespan, with an emphasis on reproductive, gynecologic, and family-centered health education.

 

1.7         Provide medical assessment, treatment, education, health promotion, and prevention to individuals, families, and community.

 

1.8         Demonstrates knowledge, of growth and development, and pathophysiology of disease processes, specific to the obstetrical and gynecological population from menarche through the remainder of the lifespan.  

 

1.9         Knowledge of a variety of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment, the desired effects, side effects, and complications of their use as well as the accurate administration of the pharmacologic agent, including dosage calculations as required.  Knowledge of the administrative requirements for proper documentation of patients condition including disease progress, acknowledgement of teaching, and follow up care.   

 

1.10      Knowledge of computer operations and proficiency in the use of basic word processing, data entry and automated medical records.

 

1.11      Ability to synthesize data from a variety of sources and make appropriate clinical decisions. 

 

1.12      Skill in setting up, operating and monitoring specialized medical equipment such as IV infusion pumps, cardiac monitoring devices, EKG units, oxygen analyzers, nebulizers, and other unit specific equipment.
