NURSE, STAFF - Infectious Disease

Outpatient Area Regular/Temporary : Regular Standard Hours : 40.00 Shift : Day Full Time/Part Time : Full-Time Job ID : 2225261 Responsibilities : OVERVIEW: The staff nurse is a registered nurse who is responsible for assuring competent, compassionate nursing care for specific patients and families. The staff nurse is responsible and accountable for the overall nursing care management of patients within the outpatient Infectious Disease Unit. The staff nurse also collaborates with other health care providers and attending physicians in providing optimal health outcomes for patients. REPORTING: Accountable to the Infectious Disease Unit Nurse Manager PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1.0As an integral member of the outpatient team, the Staff Nurse provides competent, compassionate nursing care based on scientific principles and the use of the nursing process. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 1.1Triage and assess patient needs via telephone 1.2Provide initial patient assessment and evaluation for drop-in patients. 1.3Perform phlebotomy, provide injections and start/maintain peripheral intravenous lines. 1.4Serve as a resource and oversee the operational flow of the clinic in collaboration with other nursing staff and medical assistants 1.5Coordinate/initiate home IV therapy services for patients 1.6Provide education and follow up for patients on HIV antiretrovirals 1.7Serve as a case manager and coordinating ancillary services for patients in need of VNA services, durable medical equipment, and responding to prior authorization requests. 1.8Provide outreach and follow up for high risk patients 1.9Serve as a liaison between patients and other members of the treatment team. 1.10Provide nursing services for the Travelers and Tropical Medicine Clinic 1.11Identify, facilitate, and evaluate outcomes of nursing care for an individual patient or group of patients, utilizing the nursing process. 1.12Documents relevant patient information in accordance with Minimum Expectations for Documentation. 1.13Communicates the plan of care and other pertinent information to/from other health team members 1.14Participates in quality assurance activities. 1.15Participates in social service rounds and other interdisciplinary meetings. 2.0Collaborates with other professionals, and directs nonprofessional nursing personnel in maintaining recognized standards 2.1Teaches and directs all nursing personnel for whom she/he is responsible 2.2Participates in orientation of new permanent and temporary staff members 2.3Appropriately utilizes nursing resources 2.4Interprets hospital and departmental policies and procedures to nurses and other health team members 3.0Participates in daily operational activities necessary for safe patient/staff environment 3.1Utilizes resources efficiently to facilitate optimal patient care 3.2Provides input to the Nurse Manager regarding unit needs. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: 4.0Maintains and updates clinical knowledge and skills based on current nursing and health care practices. 4.1Adheres to requirements for mandatory continuing education and certification. 4.2Identifies own learning needs and goals and develops a plan to meet them 4.3Maintains and develops professional practice through continuing educational programs and appropriate learning experiences 4.4Contributes to relevant committees, professional meetings, continuing educational and/or formal academic programs. Requirements : Current Massachusetts Licensure as a Registered Nurse Current BLS Certification Experience in HIV/AIDS preferred ACRN (AIDS Certified Registered Nurse) certification preferred
