A summary of the specific skills, knowledge and behaviors of this position are: non-licensed worker who has been trained to perform certain procedures and tasks under the direction of a registered nurse according to state practice act, hospital policies, procedures, standards, practice skills, check lists and demonstrated competencies. The OB scrub technician has duties related to scrubbing and assisting with surgeries (ie: C/Sections); and maintaining a sterile field according to specific guidelines. The technician may also be assigned to the care and comfort of patients according to the specific needs of the unit, and according to the technician's knowledge, abilities, and skills.
Works inside, may accompany patient/visitor to their automobile at the hospital entrance; rotates to various shifts to accommodate staffing needs.
BLS certification
Graduation from high school or equivalent; exhibits basic math, reading, and writing competency; satisfactorily completes job orientation and training; satisfactorily completes required Scrub Technician class and attains passing score.
