Oil Trading Analyst
The successful candidate will be responsible for all analysis of the trading margins of current and potential trading businesses and oil and gas assets. The incumbent will collaborate with the assets management and trading department to develop models and assemble data. They will be responsible for monitoring developments in upstream (including production levels and quality changes), and downstream (including expansions, closures, and maintenance).
Responsibilities:
- Developing models and assembling data in order to make recommendations on the trading margins of current and potential trading business and oil and gas assets
- Developing models in crude evaluation software and refinery netback simulation software to make recommendations on trading ideas
- Developing and maintaining databases on crude oil production levels and qualities in order to make recommendations on trading ideas and to support supply and demand forecasts by other analysts
- Developing and maintaining databases on refinery configuration changes, expansions, closures, and scheduled and unscheduled shutdowns in order to make recommendations on trading ideas and to support supply and demand forecasts by other analysts
- Keeping organized records of data, documents, models, results, and reports in order to facilitate review, information gathering, summary, and other analysis
- Communicating and summarizing findings and recommendations, and sharing analysis in written or verbal form in order to support trading and assets management decisions
- Conducting research in order to make ongoing improvements to models and analysis.
Requirements:
- Minimum 3+ years experience in refinery operations, supply or marketing, oil trading research or analysis, or oil trading risk management or operations.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills and a strong ability to organize large amounts of data are required to design models, to develop and maintain databases, to keep organized records of data and documents, and to support other analysts. Knowledge or experience with designing relational databases will be an added advantage
- Experience with using crude evaluation software and refinery netback simulation software
- Knowledge of refinery operations, oil trading, and oil trading operations is required to design models and develop and maintain databases
- Strong communication skills are required to facilitate interaction with other analysts, assets management and trading departments, making recommendations, enhancing confidence in model results, and preparing presentations and reports
- Minimum Bachelors Degree in Engineering/Finance/Economics/Business
