An opportunity has become available for an Operational Purchasing Manager to join an established manufacturing business based in central Birmingham. The products our Client manufactures are very niche and are used in heavy construction machinery, thus experience of manufacturing techniques and processes would be a distinct advantage.
Reporting directly to the Head of Purchasing, the successful candidate will be responsible for the management of a small purchasing team. The role focuses on the day to day management of procuring material for production requirements, following QCDS principles. As Manager of this function you will be a key contact to the supply base for operational purchasing, and therefore will be responsible for developing existing supplier relationships and identifying opportunities to create customer delight. You will have the ability to make sound commercial decisions and also own Operational Purchasing KPI's as set by the Head of Purchasing.
Duties responsibilities
• Responsible for managing the delivery of all production items to ensure on time delivery and customer requirements are achieved. In addition to this ownership, responsibility for component delivery to the quality and the manufacturing areas to enable the most efficient capacity utilization
• Manage the integrity of all production purchasing information held on the company MRP system, including all cost and delivery information, ensuring its accuracy at all times
• Support the Quality team in the PPAP process and also root cause analysis for any supplier concerns
• Responsibility for managing and monitoring inventory targets and stock turns
• Manage the level of commitment with suppliers, minimizing the financial risk and also the risk of obsolete inventory
• To manage and develop the Operational Purchasing team, including setting departmental objectives and supporting and mentoring members of the team in the achievement of these objectives
• Effective proactive liaison with other departments to ensure that the team understands forecasts and plans so that they can meet the dynamic customer demand
• Play an active role in supporting the Strategic team in identifying and developing new suppliers through to approved supplier status
• Participate and support the Strategic team in the creation of price and supply contracts, in line with the operational needs of the business
• As part of the Purchasing team undertake ongoing development of existing suppliers, activities to include on time delivery adherence, supplier quality development and delivery programs - (Lean Replenishment System, Direct Line Feed, vendor managed Inventory etc.)
• Alongside the Strategic team identify and participate in supplier transition projects
• Assist in supporting the team to achieve the lowest "total overall purchase cost" giving the best value for money
• Collate information on Purchasing activities and Operational objectives.
