Operational Risk Analyst – Business Portfolio Management Team recruitment
Investment Banking Risk Control is a global function consisting of highly skilled professionals responsible for the control of market and credit risk, as well as the development of methodologies for evaluating market and credit risk. It is also responsible for the validation of models used for valuation and risk quantification across the Investment Bank.
The Business Portfolio Management team assists the Chief of Staff to the IB Chief Risk Officer in exercising oversight in the management of business risks arising from both Change the Bank (CTB) and Run the Bank (RTB) activities.
Key responsibilities of the team are as follows:
- Provide program governance and oversight, including management reporting to the IB Risk Control senior management;
- Drive the activities necessary for the implementation of any policy changes, which impact IB Risk Control;
- Participate in the definition and management of deliverables for regulatory, audit and Operational Risk Inventory actions;
- Act as a functional point of contact with Group Internal Audit, Group Operational Risk Control and Group SOX Office.
With the accelerated role out of Operational Risk Framework 2, the remit of the Business Portfolio Management team has been extended to UBS Group level. Your job is a newly created Operational Risk Analyst role. It is wide ranging and gives you the opportunity to work with a number of functions and key individuals across the firm. All roles in the team have CTB and RTB elements. On CTB, primarily the job will involve being the point contact for IT and Strategic Change PMO colleagues with the objective to assist them in the operational risk mitigation element of the prioritization and business case for change, whereas the focus on RTB will be the identification, understanding, reporting and resolution of risks within Group Risk Control as well as to make value-added recommendations for remediation. It is anticipated that your normal activities will be a mixture of:
- Identifying operational risks within the function and ensuring that these are appropriately evaluated and documented;
- Delivering an assessment of the operational risk arising within the function;
- Ensuring that appropriate actions are taken to remediate processes where the risk is unacceptable and where appropriate leading the analysis and managing the remediation process;
- Ensuring that there is effective coordination across the teams within Group Risk Control with appropriate escalation and reporting to senior management and governance forums;
- Managing the functional processes relating to formal operational risk certifications including SOX 302 and SOX 404;
- Ongoing research and analysis aligned with the deliverables committed to various stakeholders such as Regulators, External and Internal Auditors and Operational Risk Control etc.;
- Discovering and collating information from across the firm to support ongoing assessment of risks impacting on IB Risk Control;
- Improving the process for the identification and remediation of significant risks and aligning this process more closely to the risk framework.
You will be expected to move Group Risk Control forward in its understanding of the existing level of business risk using all available data and increasing the visibility and transparency of those risks. In addition, you will have opportunities to gain broader experience and to work across the teams within Group Risk Control. There will be numerous opportunities to demonstrate your value add across the organization.
This is a new and exciting role with a broad and challenging scope that requires a combination of business, product and technical knowledge, coupled with strong client-facing and interpersonal skills.
Requirements
- Significant work experience in a financial services organization, ideally working for an investment bank, from a risk perspective including:
– Business / Project planning;
– Financial reporting and costing for change programs;
– Presentation and workshop facilitation;
– Performance measurement, e.g. metrics, balanced scorecard etc;
– Change management, transformational change and change effectiveness best practice;
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to:
– Identify problems and develop solutions;
– Articulation of problems and business situations in visuals such as process flows
– Manage details while maintaining a strategic view;
– Work effectively with ambiguity and change;
- Excellent teamwork skills with the ability to build relationships and to work closely with different levels of seniority across the firm;
- Strong initiative and sense of ownership including the ability to work under own direction and be accountable for deliverables;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Preferred Graduate in either Economics / Mathematics or other quantitative discipline;
- Preferred Business Process Improvement experience such as Six Sigma
- Very good working knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, Visio and Word. Access experience is desirable.
- Experience in change with a solid knowledge of investment banking products and sound understanding of Basel II and III requirements would be very beneficial
- Expertise could have been established in a major financial services organization or professional services firm advising investment banking clients.
