Operational Risk Associate

The Risk Assessment Officer will work closely with the Control team.  It will also be necessary to understand the areas where risk runs across departmental boundaries – across Finance or Risk for example – and to establish and maintain appropriate co-operative working relationships, ensuring risks are managed.

Responsibilities

• Establish and maintain the risk framework for Operations Americas.

• Assess the awareness, management and control of risks (primarily but not wholly operational in nature) within the main functions of Operations, Americas and also in aggregate across Operations, Americas (ensuring within the risk framework) and establishing action plans to address any gaps.

• Undertake global risk-based reviews across Operations which will include establishment of risk issues and the planning and execution of actions to address any such weaknesses (examples of such reviews might be manual payments processing, unmatched confirmations, event management, withholding tax processing and reporting and so on).

Minimum Requirements

• Specific business knowledge technical knowledge required

• A good knowledge of how an Operations area in the investment banking field works in a global environment. An understanding of the risks to be managed within Operations in the investment banking environment

• An understanding of the risk framework within which Operations works, the control environment and knowledge of risk and control failures across the market in recent years. The successful candidate will probably have supervised teams, processes / controls in a Middle Office environment at a Supervisor/Manager level

• Close involvement in systems/Infrastructure assessment/implementation in an Investment Banking Operations environment

• Able to work independently and diligently but also collaboratively within formal and informal teams. Strong communication and networking skills. Logical thinker with a pragmatic approach to solutions

• 5+ years of Risk Assessment Work

• Bachelor’s degree (Finance or Business preferred)

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications

• The candidate must be able to work on multiple tasks and respond well to a deadline oriented environment

• The candidate must possess strong quantitative and project management skills with the ability to drive results
