Operational Risk Controller – Finance recruitment

Role Description:

Operational Risk Control was established in 2005 to develop and implement an Operational Risk Framework (ORF) in UBS.  ORC is a global organization with representation in the Americas, EMEA and APAC.  Its structure consists of global front-to-back and functional controllers.  Front-to-back controllers focus on operational risk arising from Front Office and related Support Control activities; ensuring risks are transparent and that appropriate action is taken.  Functional Controllers focus on risks within a functional area and across the boundaries with other divisions. 

This position is part of the functional team covering Finance, Risk Control Treasury across all Business Divisions within the Corporate Centre ORC team.  The main focus for this position is to support independent quality assurance reviews that ORC are required to perform on behalf of the Risk Management Control Renewal program (RMCR).  These reviews cover Finance, Risk and Treasury related objectives and will require an ability to quickly understand the program objectives, challenges and success criteria. This, in turn will require a sound base level knowledge of investment bank front to back processes throughout the product lifecycle (i.e. detailed product knowledge is a bonus but is not essential, knowledge of FTB controls and particularly those performed within Finance and Risk Control is).  Ideally the candidate will have some line Product Control or Market Risk control experience, or have had sufficient exposure to Product Control in another role (e.g. audit) to understand their processes.

The RMCR program is critical to UBS’s growth strategy and is highly visible to the regulators and to the shareholders. As such, this is a very high profile exercise which attracts a commensurate level of management scrutiny

Other key capabilities required:

• Able to critically evaluate the material presented and independently challenge assertions made

• Leadership, relationship building, communication and be able to influence people up, down and across organizations (will involve liaising with senior managers within IB

• Be able to tailor communication style to audience: moving between detailed analysis/discussions with analysts to high level, to delivering punchy key message summaries for management

• Project management skills to deliver against milestones and deadlines
