Operational Risk Controller – Operational Risk Strategy & Projects recruitment
Operational Risk Control (ORC) was established in 2005 to develop and implement an Operational Risk Framework (ORF) in UBS globally. Its structure consists of global business aligned and function-aligned controllers who have global and regional reporting lines. This position is part of the Investment Bank (IB) ORC strategic and projects team. The Operational Risk Controller’s primary duty is:
- Support the Operational Risk Framework implementation across the IB front-to-back. Activities include, identification and development of controls and working closely within with the business and ORC to coordinate and build options and solutions in related activity including scenarios, core controls, risk appetite; drafting guidance and procedures in the context of the framework for IB specific implementation; providing support to the business
- Provide analytical support for systems implementation including migration and UAT; running workshops and meetings across functions and ORC for discussion and requirements gathering; and general support across IB, business and group
- Acting as the 'go-to-person', managing and coordinating across the IB and leading dialogue on topics, and way forward across all stakeholders
- Ad hoc data analysis of information requests, construction and preparation of information including sourcing information from various data sources and presenting them in a meaningful way to support decision-making; contribute to reporting, project management including status tracking, progress reporting and supporting resolution
- Working with views for multiple and diverse stakeholders such as senior management, operating levels, auditors, and regulators
- Working extensively with Excel and Powerpoint to polish valuable data
Requirements
- We are looking for a flexible, hands-on person with a strong work ethic and positive attitude who is interested in building a career in Operational Risk Control. Must have a keen interest in Operational Risk as a subject with a can-do attitude and progressive mind set in an exciting, demanding and dynamic environment.
- Preference is for a background in investment banking and a good understanding of internal controls risk management and practices
- Be very well organised, apply structured thinking and work diligently to meet ad-hoc and urgent requests to short timescales. Must be able to work confidently across all levels in the business. This person must have a good grasp of Excel and other MS Office based applications, and be confident around analysis and reporting systems and applications
- Control expertise - Must possess strong knowledge of internal control design, traded product front-to-back processes, cross product support and risk management principles
- Industry experience – must have a broad understand and appreciation of the basic building blocks of the banking / securities industry; and understanding of the regulatory environment
- Functional experience - Must have experience in one or more of trading, product control, middle office, operations, business management, risk control and auditing (ideally combined with more recent functional experience);
- Business experience – Must have experience in a global, multicultural, performance-driven organization
- Core competencies - Must have strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate complex issues succinctly and clearly to non-technical persons; Strong team building, relationship management, project management and problem solving skills; Demonstrable professional integrity and a strong work ethic
