The Role
Reporting to the Head of Investment Risk you will work directly with key stakeholders of the business and actively manage and develop the operational risk framework for the Investment Management Group (IMG). You will be responsible for ensuring the function actively supports the identification, management and mitigation of operational risks.
Responsibilities
- Develop and direct initiatives aimed at improving and implementing global best practice operational risk management strategies for the Investment Management Group. Following the groups’ operational risk framework, this includes establishing and supporting the development of strong risk self assessment, change management practices, internal risk monitoring and reporting infrastructure, targeted reviews, controls assurance, and external risk monitoring programs.
- Using professional judgment and industry experience to guide and collaborate with global counterparts to take IMG policy and procedure to a global standard.
- Provide operational risk management leadership on significant technology projects impacting IMG to ensure high global standards of operational controls are designed into future-state business processes.
- Independently lead efforts on behalf of IMG Operational Risk team to guide governance and control design decisions from the operational risk perspective on company strategic initiatives both regionally and globally.
- The position will interact with and influence senior leaders across IMG, Fund Accounting, IT, Legal, Compliance, and other risk specialty areas such as Fraud and Information Security.
- Identify leading operational risk indicators through alignment of metrics with risks and controls. Develop and maintain metrics to communicate the status of compliance measures effectively. Embeds operational risk indicators in dashboards and reports for local and global stakeholders.
- Develop and maintain knowledge of financial markets, securities and general investment themes in order to bring an informed perspective to risk management processes. Builds technical knowledge of systems and data used by the department including: Blackrock Aladdin, Bloomberg, and Charles River.
Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree. Graduate degree preferred. Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) or FRM designation is a plus
- Minimum of eight years general experience and five years related risk management and controls work experience.
- exceptional communications skills and have recent experience developing relationships with, and influencing senior internal and external stakeholders
- Experience with valuing and assessing risk of different strategies and various kinds of products used, including OTC derivatives, securitized products, MBS/ABS, etc.
- Familiar with relevant law and regulations of UCITS and have experience of proactively dealing with Irish and U.K. Regulators.
- Good knowledge of management techniques such as securities lending, collateral management and repo/reverse repo.
- Significant experience in designing, building, and directing an operational risk, compliance, and controls program within a large, world-class financial institution.
- Expert knowledge and experience with complex systems implementations, project management, and IT systems design processes
- Specialized knowledge across the disciplines related to risks in investment management (e.g., regulatory, counterparty, technology, and fraud risk) with core expertise in operational risk.
- Sound business judgment and ability to apply practical thinking in weighing the potential for risk against risk related investments and decisions.
- Broad strategic and conceptual thinker with a practical orientation and ability to translate complex risk concepts into executable programs and to align risks with business objectives.
- Ability to mobilize, execute and deliver.
