Operations Engineer

Full time, based in Basingstoke.

Our client is a leading provider of testing, approval and consultancy services to the global technology market.

They cover a wide range of technologies including Cellular, Wireless and Smart Card technologies, with particular emphasis on convergent products (i.e. those that combine multiple technologies). They have been at the forefront of new developments for a number of years now, and continue to be in the mobile payments arena. Their experience in wireless communications, payment functionalities and security means they are uniquely positioned to help bring the worlds of payments and mobile devices together for the future.

They offer a one-stop-shop for product testing and approvals, from testing to project management and consultative support. They also offer subcontract support for companies who may need some technical assistance to take a product from the final stages of RD to a market launch. 

The role:

An Operations engineer is primarily responsible for performing work on customer projects. The work will include testing of customer’s products, report writing and supporting customers’ compliance activities.

Some of this work is customer facing and may involve working with customers over extended periods of time to test their products, whilst helping them to solve compliance-related problems.

Responsibilities

To undertake chargeable testing, report writing and consulting duties. An engineer should require minimal supervision and should be able to tackle problems in a systematic way.

To assist the Technical Group Manager in maintaining accreditation standards, such as equipment and site maintenance, ensuring adequate record keeping and were necessary assisting in the training of new engineers.

To update the company work monitoring systems with accurate details and job status for each item of work for which the Engineer is responsible.

To meet customer delivery requirements in all respects.

To undertake any ad hoc duties as may be required.

Skills required

The ideal candidate would have experience with RF testing (not Cellular or GCF testing), of at least 2 years’ experience. And must have experience of testing to the following standards:

FCC parts 15, 22, 24, 90 and 101 or ETSI 300220, 300113, 3000086, 300328 and 2004440

 


Essential Requirements:

Degree or equivalent in a relevant subject.

Experience with Radio Performance Testing or an ability to demonstrate an advanced practical knowledge of radio communications principles and equipment.

Must be able to drive.

Is aware of the importance of getting detail right, and has experience of working on projects where detail is important. Concentration skills are paramount.

Understands the importance of addressing customer needs and completing work in a timely manner.

Able to plan and organise own work.

Able to suggest new ways of doing things within the company.

It would be a distinct advantage if:

IEE Member or Associate Member

Experience of the commercial importance of compliance activities for wireless products.

Has worked on the compliance testing
(for radio performance parameters) of radio or microwave products.
