Operations Internships and Industrial Placements recruitment

Morgan Stanley has earned a worldwide reputation for the excellence of its advice and execution in financial markets and has helped redefine the meaning of financial services. With more than 1,300 offices in 42 countries, the firm is truly global – a market leader in the U.S., Europe, Asia as well as in emerging markets.

The Glasgow office opened in 2000 and now has over 1000 employees over 6 divisions: Institutional Operations; Private Wealth Operations; Finance; Fund Services; Information Technology; Risk Management and is the 4th largest location globally and the 2nd largest in Europe.

Operations is the front line of defence for Morgan Stanley’s financial well-being. One of the largest divisions in the firm, Operations has diverse responsibilities including correctly settling and recording millions of transactions per day, identifying and mitigating all operational risks, developing strong client relationships and partnering with technology to realize the full potential of IT and e-solutions. Throughout, we continually seek ways to improve, while actively supporting the development of new businesses, structures and markets.

The Operations Summer Internship (13 weeks) is aimed at students in their penultimate year at University and the Industrial Placement Programme (48 weeks) is aimed at undergraduates who are completing a four-year degree with a year in industry as a requirement of their degree. Both programmes provide in-depth exposure to the finance industry and serve as a pipeline into our Full Time Operations Analyst Programme. We provide students with challenging assignments, giving us the opportunity to assess their skills and contributions.

The placements will provide students with a thorough overview of our industry and the challenges and opportunities one can expect from a Morgan Stanley career. You will get the opportunity to work closely with colleagues to process complex transactions, solve operational problems, respond to business issues and client needs, assist in risk management, conduct revenue analysis and participate in firm reengineering projects.

The Programmes include an orientation to the Firm, presentations that give a broad understanding of the organisation, professional skills training, and social/networking events. You will also be assigned a peer advisor to aid your smooth transition into the organisation.

Throughout the programme you would continue to benefit from structured and on-the-job training coupled with advice and guidance from mentors and colleagues. Regular evaluations keep your learning and progress on track.
