Description
MO Banking OPS Singapore is part of Global Banking Markets Operations (GBM), with reporting lines into the Head of APAC Middle Office based in Singapore and is a very international focused department with corresponding international products and clients.
The tasks of the department include structuring of custom credit facilities in the credit systems requested by the Front Office (including syndicated forms of financing), set up of (legally required) documentation, administration processes and handling activities for Global Clients and Global Markets clients and for all deals booked in RBS Singapore NV and plc branches.
The Middle Office is supporting various Front Office departments, amongst others: Corporate Credit, Portfolio Management, Corporate Coverage, GRG (Global Restructuring Group), MNC (Multinational Corporation) and Network Banking Unit (NBU). In the process of the structuring and execution of the custom credit facilities, MO Banking OPS SG cooperates with the Front Office departments, Agent Banks, Credit Administration departments of foreign offices, international Risk Management departments, the Off-shore locations in Mumbai (India) and the other branches in the region.
The team has responsibility for coordinating the operational support for the banking business, business support, credit support, documentation production for the lending business, liaising with Lending Operations and Agency Operations.
The nature of this support requires strong multi faceted individuals, able to deal with legal questions, loan operations processes and able to implement change. This role implies as well to establish close working relationships with several key stakeholders, Originators, TPM, Other Middle Office and Lending Operations in the region, clients, lenders, lawyers and counsels. •
The Head of Middle Office is:
- Responsible for improving service delivery and productivity to maximise service quality and operational efficiency and minimising risk through the effective implementation of appropriate controls
- Lead the team to deliver a seamless support to the business
- Ensure department complies with all group policies, standards guidelines, local obligations, rules and reporting requirements
- Be a key enabler in the success of APAC International Banking Ops business by ensuring that their customers receive a high quality, cost effective and competitive banking service within a robust control environment
- Ensure department maintains and operates Middle Office best working practice codes of conduct
- Ensure all department financial targets are met (both in terms of revenue costs)
- Responsible for developing and maintaining excellent working relationships with:
- Bankers, Corporate Credit, Portfolio Management, Corporate Coverage, GRG and MNC Heads.
- SG Middle Office and other Banking Operations functions.
- SG based functional, stakeholder or project partners.

- Manage and provide direction to a team of skilled professionals
- Provide advice and support to the business to implement and run Banking deals
- Understand the structure, review and advise on the loan documentation to guarantee operability
- Close collaboration with legal and external advisers
- Collaborate and coordinate with Debt markets syndication, Origination
- Manage the operational coordination of the closing of the deal
- Structuring the deal in the credit systems
- Accountable for covenant tracking
- Accountable for Securities and Documentation safekeeping

- Managing ongoing relationship with the business and the clients
- Responsible to implement the projects involving the department
- Responsible for the ownership, development and consistent application of Standard Operating Procedures
- Work with stakeholders and functions to develop a world class front to back operating model
- Responsible for creating a climate of continuous improvement identifying and implementing best practice and strategic solutions, which can be replicated and deployed across the SG Middle Office and contribute to the on-going development of the GBM operating strategy.
- Accountable for effective delivery of change management initiatives.
- Periodically determines whether agreements in the area of personal development are being met (education, trainings, etc.).
- Responsible for arranging annual appraisals, performance management, plans development reviews and alternatively recommends improvements. Ensure that SG Middle Office functions are structured and resourced to maximise both service quality and operational efficiency
Essential :
- Strong Managerial experience
- Successful proven experience in Middle Office function ; ability to manage the functions, responsibilities and conflicts in relation to structured complex deals
- Very strong background in documentation / legal issues
- Credit skills : excellent command of the credit process with ability to anticipate and answer questions raised by the originators ; knowledge of financial structures, ability to understand/translate data, financial analysis, financial ratios and cashflow models required
- Documentation skills – ability to read, understand, interpret and negotiate complex transaction documents and to communicate this to Borrowers, lawyers and lenders
- Excellent command of loan admin procedures and processes
- Strong experience of trade finance products
- Strong Interpersonal skills to liaise with both internal external customers
- Meticulous with a sense of responsibility and ownership for the transactions under his / her care
