SUMMARY
The Engineering Assistant will support staff members in developing a variety of optical systems including beam expanders, laser optics, focal plane assemblies, and fiber optics for space and airborne applications. This position involves assembling and aligning complex optical systems using a variety of optical instruments, performing optical testing, and specifying and purchasing optical components. The candidate will also help organize and maintain our client’s optical facilities and instrumentation. The position will require occasional travel to field sites.
Requirements:
· The candidate should have a minimum of 5 years experience in optical assembly and alignment.
· The candidate should have experience building and testing refractive and reflective optical components and systems.
· The candidate should have experience with optical alignment instruments such as interferometers, autocollimators, alignment telescopes, theodolites, profilometers and wavefront sensors.
· Experience with interferometric testing, optical component bonding, lens barrel assembly, high power lasers and fiber optics is highly desired.
· The candidate should have a broad understanding of optical fabrication techniques and shall be capable of evaluating vendors for custom manufacturing requirements.
· The candidate should be capable of performing incoming inspection on a variety of procured items, and therefore needs a working knowledge of optical fabrication specifications.
· US Citizenship Required
· Ability to obtain a Security Clearance Required
· Former Government employees (military and civil service), once selected for work at our client site, must obtain a Post Government Employment letter from the agency ethics counsel of their last government assignment before they can begin work.
