Summary
 
The Optical Technician shall be responsible for assembling complex optical assemblies, working from work instructions, engineering drawings and prints utilizing a Tri-Optics machine or the shim to center method.  Successful candidate will work directly with engineers following verbal instruction to fabricate newly designed products and to develop assembly processes and procedures

·         Evaluates prescription in conjunction with client's vocational and a vocational visual requirement.
·         Recommends specific lenses, lens treatments, and frames to suit client needs.
·         Assists client in selecting frames according to style and color, coordinating frames with facial and eye measurements and optical prescription.
·         Prepares work order and instructions for grinding lenses and fabricating eyeglasses.
·         Verifies finished lenses are ground to specification.
·         Heats, shapes, or bends plastic or metal frames to adjust eyeglasses to fit client.
·         Instructs clients in adapting to, wearing, and caring for eyeglasses.
·         Sells optical goods such as binoculars, sunglasses, magnifying glasses, and low vision aids.
·         Repairs damaged frames.
·         Other duties as assigned.

Computer Skills
Familiarity with Tri-Optics machines and basic computer skills including Excel, Word, and Windows, is required.

The employee will normally work in a temperature-controlled office environment, with frequent exposure to electronic office equipment.
 
During visits to areas of operations, may be exposed to extreme cold or hot weather conditions.  Is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise.

• 2 year Associate Degree minimum.
• 5+ years work experience.
• Previous experience in optical assembly is preferred.
