Oracle DBA Service Operations Specialist

Our client, a global financial services provider has an excellent opportunity for an Oracle DBA Service Operations Specialist based in Birmingham.

This is a role for a Senior Oracle Database Administration/Engineer, who has both operational and implementation experience, working within a fast moving highly technical environment. You will be a senior member of the team and report directly to the program manager or technical program lead.

You will be responsible for supporting nearly 6000 Oracle, Sybase and MSSQL Servers. DBAs are also responsible for the support of both production and development servers.

The team is responsible for undertaking all Oracle related production support and project work. The environment is a mixture of Oracle versions ranging from 10g to 11g, Oracle RAC cluster, ASM and Exadata environment in place as well.

Projects to transition the environment to current standards and monitoring is underway so OEM 12 experienced will be a pre-requisite.

- You will have a very strong technical background to support Oracle databases.
- You will be the sort of person who welcomes responsibility and you will proactively look to identify and improve existing processes and practices within the environment.
- You will have proven experience of large scale server environments.
- You will have experience working in a geographically and culturally diverse organisation
- You will come from a financial services environment or have (and be able to clearly articulate) a directly transferable and relevant industry experience.
- Your background will include roles that have given you a deep technical understanding in one or more of our core products (Oracle, OEM, ASM and PowerBroker).
- Your DBA experience will include working with application and project teams; in the planning and implementation of major project work and you will also be able to demonstrate a strong operational mindset throughout the project lifecycle.
- Your communications skills will need to be to an extremely high standard as you will be expected to liaise with operational DBA teams as we introduce technical controls that reduce operational risks, that flow from privileged access rights utilized in the normal day to day management of databases. The program involves fundamental changes to current operational practices and issues commonly experienced with change are expected to arise.
- You will have a clear understanding of the ITIL processes and an understanding of Incident, Problem and Change Management.
- You will be recognised as an expert and a technical leader in key areas of you DBA skills, a person that other people seek out for assistance and advice that you always willing to share.
- You will be a team player and inspire others around you to meet your high standards and levels of diligence.

Role and responsibilities:
- Implementation of control enhancements in PowerBroker, CyberArk and BladeLogic
- Involvement where necessary in design of additional technical controls
- A point of escalation for major issues including being the program representative for databases
- Take ownership of all aspects of the implementation for databases at a deep technical level
- An appreciation of business deadlines, and priorities balanced with best security practices and working methods.
- Understanding of risk analysis and assessment.
- Identification of areas of technical or operational weaknesses that arise in the course of the program, design and then take ownership of suitable remediation plans
- Documentation of process and concepts to assist in even distribution of knowledge in the wider database teams.

Essential Technical Skills:

* Recovery Manager (RMAN)

Preferable Technical Skills:
* ITIL foundation
* PowerBroker policies and scripting
Education / Qualifications Req: Degree or Equivalent desirable
Special Circumstances: Professional Working Day, although the program will involve out of hours change implementations.
