P & L Analyst
- Experience in the energy industry working with derivatives, exchange traded and structured products.
- Perform the daily reconciliation of complex trading strategies for various commodities and locations: identify and reconcile differences by comparing system valuations with manual system of checks and balances while adhering to strict daily deadlines. Prepare and reviews daily financial packages, including PL by strategy for traders and senior management.
- Reconcile moderately/more complex discrepancies, including system, contract, scheduling and invoicing discrepancies; collaborates with other operations personnel to resolve problems that affect the daily PL.
- Respond to questions from trading personnel in multiple offices related to the PL; researches and explains causes of discrepancies between actual PL movements and PL movements that are anticipated by the traders.
- Perform special projects as assigned.
- Fast paced trading environment and able to adapt to changing requirements
- Build models and reconciliation tools including PL explain, curve validation, reserves calculations and structured deals (storage transportation models).
Required Skills
- A very strong understanding of Excel, Excel VBA
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Systems experience with CXL (Triple Point)
- Database knowledge and query experience using Showcase, MS Query, Excel, or SQL
- Understanding of accounting principals and practices, trading concepts and market valuation
- Strong analytical skills and ability to perform independent analysis requiring strict attention to details
- Strong problem-solving and organizational skills
- Ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet strict deadlines
- Ability to work independently and propose solutions
Required Experience
- Experience with commodity products, specifically Fuel Oil, Natural Gas Liquids, Natural Gas, Refined Products and Crude Oil
- Experience managing PL resulting from physical positions including cargos, storage and transportation
- Understanding of VBA and other programming languages like C, and products like Matlab
- Proven history of being able to complete tasks successfully under limited direction and supervision
- Experience leading projects across multiple groups and international offices
- 5 to 10 years’ experience
Education
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in accounting or finance
- Advanced degree (MBA) or certifications (CFA or CPA)
