Package Development Director:

Primary Functions:

 

The Package Development Director (PDD) focus will be to ensure the on time, in budget launch and execution of brands meeting all aesthetic and quality requirements of the customer and Company.

 

Package Development Responsibilities:

 

• Maintain timetables, costing and managing development of packaging, to include: form, fit and function for custom package launches.

• Interact with Creative, Marketing (internal or customer), product Development, Retailer and/or Distribution center for the time launch of project.

• Ensure purchase orders and planning schedules are prepared and kept in line for a timely launch.

• Interact with local and US fillers and product development houses to ensure their awareness of all packaging, shipping vessels, etc.

• Ensure and make public the required testing parameters to be required for each package in development.

• Hold to a 98 percent on time launch, zero airship.

• Interface with the internal operations team as well as the China office and filling firms.

• Troubleshoot critical issues.

• Costing, to stay +/- 15 percent in development and plus or minus +/- 5 on production, for documented cost of goods.

• Hold Marketing, Sales and Creative accountable for missed dates, while updating timetables weekly to ensure all parties are aware of project.

• Prioritize workload and critical issues pertaining to development.

• Maintain positive attitude and foster a positive working environment at all times.

• 24 hour-rule – Making a concerted effort to acknowledge and-or address all inquiries within 24 hours upon receipt.

• Additional duties and responsibilities as deemed appropriate by the VP of Operations or President, and that are typical for someone in this position in this size company.

• Bi-monthly BOM updates and status report issued to customer / internal team.

 

Development Responsibilities:

 

• Evaluates and resolves technical feasibility, design optimization and production issues as it relates to custom packaging projects.

• Works with Technical Engineers to approval all custom drawing tools, ensuring that all specifications are met as it relates to project budget, timing and capacity needs.

• Ensures that labeling and marketing/promotional literature match product specifications.

• Researches and monitors existing client base and industry developments and identifies potential new product opportunities and supply chain avenues.

• Manages project budgets and prepares financial analysis reports for top management.

 

Timetables and Cost Sheets Development:

 

• You will be responsible to ensure the client is sent weekly project snapshots, along with updated timetables (bi-monthly) and cost sheets (bi-monthly), supported by Planning, once this team is established and in place.

• Weekly Production meetings to be held internally to ensure that open purchase orders are prioritized and production dates are firmed.

 

Required Skills:

 

• Bachelor’s degree

• 5-7 years of experience in the field or in a related area.

• Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within packaging and product management field.

• Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

• Performs a variety of complex tasks. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.

• Leads and directs the work of others.

 

Preferred Skills:

 

• Experience working with overseas manufacturers, especially in China.

• English and Chinese language.

• Have experience with package development and project management.
