Position Overview:

The Packaging Design Manager identifies, recommends, develops and implements packaging designs with excellence and delivers innovative brand strategy to customers and consumers. This position has primary responsibility to provide leadership on the brand equity consistency and maintaining global guidelines across a range of products.

As the key communication point for packaging design, this position is responsible for handling vendor selection, direction and coordination of design development between cross-functional departments and geographies.

Ensures continuous support and communication to the Packaging Design Manager for the Packaging Design Department and leverages resources within the company and the department.

Essential Job Functions:

·         Ability to manage ambiguity within a fast-paced, deadline driven process with consistent quality.

·         Help to develop and direct packaging design strategy and principles that reinforce and build brand equity.

·         Manage all design phases from concept, refinement, comps, photo shoots through hand-off to production while staying within the constraints of budget and timelines.

·         Identify/assist Marketing in Packaging Design Brief development to ensure translation of project scope, positioning, objectives, executional priorities, copy, budget and timelines are clear and specific.

·         Direct vendors (internal/external designers, photographers, illustrators) while continually assessing the deliverables in terms of the project objectives and the budgetary parameters. Manage entry-level professionals.

·         Interface between packaging engineering, packaging production, marketing and vendors to ensure design printability and a smooth workflow transition to production for commercialization.

·         Organize and deliver presentations to different management levels to gain feedback and approval to proceed on packaging concepts.

·         Serve as a brand and design resource by staying current with competitive activity and consumer trends across relevant categories.

·         Collaborative and inclusive team member who is focused on continuous improvement of processes and seeks to understand and be understood.

·         Contribute design solutions through concepts delivered digitally or via sketch.

·         Attend, as required, pre-production meetings and press runs.

·         Demonstrate hands-on ability to produce design files, presentations and business documents with Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office and the aptitude to stay current with software upgrades. A working knowledge of other database software and applications such as Lotus Notes is a plus.


Other Requirements:

·         Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design, a Packaging focus is preferred but must be demonstrated through a portfolio of strong packaging design

·         7+ years of design experience, preferably packaging, with strong branding experience working on Fortune 500 CPG brands

·         Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of clear and concise presentations

·         Self-motivated with strong organizational ability to manage multiple deadlines and deliver on key objectives

·         Enthusiastic and positive team player that works well with others
