Paint Applications Engineer/Lead Technician
Prominent Tier-1 automotive supplier in Northern Michigan (1 hour North of Traverse City).
Roles and Responsibilities for Lead Paint Technician
- Generating, testing and implementation of CI activities
- Working with supervisors, quality, engineering and other production departments to address quality concerns
- Assisting in root cause analysis and resolution of customer and internal quality issues
- Working with downstream departments and unload inspectors in the elimination of internal returns and paint related defects
- Working with molding departments to address quality concerns
- Attending APQP meeting (when required)
- Assisting in day to day production issues
- Meeting housekeeping standards of all paint line areas
- Day to day technical management of paint application equipment and processes
- Training and assisting of paint technicians
- Collect and analyze application and process related defects, and develop a course of action to eliminate the defect(s)
- Develop and maintain achievable and sustainable goals and action items to improve uptime, FTT, and parts/hr.
- Program and troubleshoot new and existing robot pathwork and parameters for new part styles and colors
- Initiate and oversee trials to improve color and appearance
- Assist and direct paint supplier in paint modifications to improve paint performance
- Design and implement new paint racks/bucks
- Intimate knowledge of the overall paint process and the interaction and dependence of one process on another
- Utilize color theory instrumentation (X-Rite) to evaluate color quality
- Utilize PELT gage or microscope film build data
- Utilize microscopes to ascertain the root cause of defects
- Help develop procedures, processes, maintenance and/or cleaning activites that would help to reduce and/or detect failures in the paint operation that would cause defects or downtime (i.e. equipment inspection procedures, cleaning frequencies, etc.)

Qualifications
Previous or current experience as a paint operations technician
Extensive working and technical knowledge of paint robotics, fluid control systems, spray guns, electrostatic bells, and other paint application equipment
Working knowledge of customer quality standards for exterior trim parts
High School Diploma
Computer proficiency: Excel, Word and Lotus Notes
Working knowledge of computers/software applications related to the paint application process
Possess initiative, willingness to learn and accept additional responsibilities
Excellent communication, leadership and interpersonal skills
Demonstrate flexibility and initiative in current role
Proven track record of performance and attendance in current role
Ability to promote teamwork and creativity in the workplace
Strength and ability to troubleshoot and solve problems
Ability to see and accurately judge color harmony or color match
Supervisory Responsibilities
Supervises employees within respective process area. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees. Conducting of layered audits within their area and the proper rotation of employes to prevent fatigue Planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding, housekeeping and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems.
