The role: Patent Counsel As a Patent Counsel, you will have the unique opportunity to develop and implement Google's strategy to protect, defend and capture the value of its patents. Your tasks will be varied and interesting and will include patent-related protection, licensing, dispute resolution (pre-litigation and litigation), acquisition, deals and policy work. You will work with engineers, product developers, executives and other legal team members, and will be responsible for managing outside counsel. You'll work with an invigorating, inspiring team of innovators and attorneys who are passionate about future technologies and excited about resolving their ensuing legal challenges. Responsibilities: * Determine strategic areas for patenting. * Negotiate patent related deals including licenses and acquisitions. * Respond to notice letters and assist with patent litigation. * Evaluate and reply to potential acquisitions and licensing opportunities. * Educate researchers and engineers on patent issues. Minimum Qualifications: * JD degree. * State bar membership and eligibility to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. * 5 years relevant legal experience. * Knowledge of computer science, electrical engineering or information retrieval, either through undergraduate degree or industry experience. Preferred Qualifications: * 10 years relevant work experience. * Solid understanding of Internet architecture and operation. * Strong interpersonal and team skills. Department: Legal
