The Woman's Hospital of Texas- Houston (00162) 7600 Fannin Street Houston, 77054 POSITION SUMMARY:

1. Under the supervision of the Director of Education the Coordinator of Childbirth and Parenting Education, the Patient Educator teaches Childbirth and/or Parenting Classes or Support Groups.
2. Recognizes the purpose of employment is to prioritize the patient as number one.
3. Identifies and assists with opportunities for performance improvement activities in the department and with other service areas.
4. Demonstrates fiscal responsibility by taking ownership of time management, decreasing waste (of time and supplies) and promoting cost effectiveness. To actively market services to increase volume and awareness.
5. Demonstrates the ability to be an advocate for and strive to protect the health, safety and rights of the patient.
6. Interactions with patients and colleagues demonstrate compassion and respect for the inherent dignity, worth, and uniqueness of every individual, unrestricted by considerations of social or economic status or cultural beliefs.
7. Communicates effectively with other departments (physicians, nurses, business office, and medical records) to provide for continuity of patient care and to meet the needs of the customers we serve.
8. Demonstrates ability to fulfill requirements of attendance, punctuality, and timekeeping practices.
9. Behaviors and interactions demonstrate a positive attitude, personal initiative and motivation to achieve the goals of the unit.

Education required and/or preferred
REQUIRED: High School Degree or equivalent
PREFERRED: Bachelor's Degree
Licensure/Certification :
REQUIRED: Teaching and/or applicable experience
PREFERRED: International Childbirth Education Association (ICEA) or Lamaze Certified Instructor or Breastfeeding Educator or AHA CPR Instructor
Experience required or preferred:
PREFERRED: One to three years recent clinical or education experience

S kills , Knowledge, and Abilities:
Reads and writes basic English. Basic computer and typing skills. Ability to demonstrate good written and oral communication skills, organized with attention to detail. Willing to learn new technical skills as applicable.
