Job Details: Job Summary: Provides direct care as assigned. Performs clerical duties for nursing unit(s) as assigned. May require access to storage areas where medications are kept and carry out procedures that require the use of non-prescription medications. Education: High school diploma or equivalent required and successful completion of tech training course as evidenced by CNA exam or nursing fundamentals from accredited organization. Successful completion of a unit secretary course from accredited organization preferred. Experience: Required Experience 1 year nurse tech hospital experience or skilled nursing facility is required of the candidate does not meet all of the educational requirements. Computer experience is required. Preferred Experience NT: 2 years NT/NA experience is preferred US: 1 year Hospital clerical experience is preferred. Candidates must successfully complete Palmetto Health unit secretary course and training within 90 days of hire. Candidates without the preferred experience are eligible for hire if they meet all of the educational requirements. Key Responsibilities: Performs responsibilities accurately, timely, and safely for assigned patients/area. Communicates and informs appropriate personnel, patients and family members of pertinent information in a timely manner. Maintains accurate paper and electronic documentation. Utilizes equipment and supplies safely and appropriately; orders supplies as needed; labels specimens correctly. Performs basic nursing care, simple and complex procedures, multiple treatments, waived testing and transports assigned patients. Maintains the order of the patient record; enters patient car orders into the computer system; thins and organizes the patient care record in accordance with the standards of care identified by the nursing unit; facilitates communication among patients, nursing, physicians, ancillary departments, and guests; orders and stores supplies for the nursing unit.
