The role: Payments Counsel As Corporate Counsel at Google, you work on the most exciting legal issues as disruptive technological innovations require creative and proactive legal guidance. You're part of a whip-smart group of in-house lawyers and the projects and cases you take on challenge you to think big and differently. You are collaborative -- ready to partner in initiatives that influence all aspects of the business and work with Googlers from all over the company. As an integrated part of the team, you proactively assess legal risks and advise on products that will not only move information into the 21st century, but move information law forward as well. As Payments Counsel you'll develop and implement legal approaches and policies for our billing platforms, focusing specifically on the company's payments coverage on a global basis. Entrepreneurial by nature, you'll be involved in a variety of legal subject areas. These include financial services, privacy, security and consumer protection. In addition to working closely with the compliance operation from another Google department, you ll also support colleagues in Accounting, Treasury, Customer Service, Collections and Sales. Responsibilities: * Ensure compliance with U.S. laws and regulations dealing with financial services, privacy, security, consumer protection and advertising. * Provide legal advice to teams from Compliance, Engineering, Product Management, Marketing and Communications from the initial stages of product development to launch. * Develop and maintain a repository of legal resources that are required for financial services and accounting. * Respond promptly to a wide range of legal requests from Engineering, Product Management, Advertising Sales, Marketing, Client Services and other business groups. Minimum Qualifications: * JD degree. In lieu of degree, 3 years of relevant experience. Preferred Qualifications: * Knowledge and understanding of local privacy, data security laws, and local laws relating to the operation of online payment services. * Demonstrable knowledge of regulatory laws as they apply to online payment services and financial services, including the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA); Regulation E, FCRA (Fair Credit Reporting Act); money transmission and money service business requirements; Anti-Money Laundering and Know Your Customer (AMLKYC) laws; Patriot Act; and other federal and state regulations pertaining to financial services. * Knowledge of payment industry legal issues and business practices, including credit card association operating regulations, NACHA (national automated clearinghouse association rules.)
