Payroll Audit and Control Manager Job in New York City 10017, New York US
NYC based Publically held Financial Services firm –
Payroll Audit and Control Manager:
-Responsible for overseeing payrolls globally.
-Design payroll processes for each region to cover every aspect of payroll processing and year-end reporting.
-Optimize the flow of incoming information and changes to ensure payroll is processed correctly.
-Review the change reports to ensure that self-service and HR-entered transactions are processed correctly.
-Review all processes in place now and historical transactions to validate that payrolls were processed correctly. This includes auditing benefits invoicing and corresponding payroll deductions. This also includes ensuring that appropriate separation of duties is in place.
-Prepare payroll analyses after each payroll is processed and before it is submitted to document and validate changes.
-Optimize reporting capabilities to support in the control functions.
-Proactively update processes as the organization grows and/or the complexity of requirements grows.
-Liaise with internal control personnel, outside auditors, and Finance in regards to audits, processes, and payroll funding.
-Oversee other highly controlled processes such as stock incentive plan management and related activities (e.g., SEC filings, shareholder approval of plans, etc).
Requirements:
-Must have experience either setting up controls for U.S. payrolls in public companies, auditing public company payrolls or experience in payroll processing from a tax or financial perspective.
-A solid understanding of a leading payroll platform and its capabilities (e.g., ADP, Ceridian, Paychex).
-Ability to evaluate the effectiveness of existing processes and proactively implement new processes.
-Must be conversant in U.S. employment tax issues and must have a solid understanding of the 941 filing process.
-Must have experience handling employment tax issues with the IRS and with the tax filer (payroll provider or otherwise).
-Ideal candidate will have experience in more complex payroll matters: payment of consultants and non-employee directors (including the issuance of 1099s), taxation of equity compensation, and international payroll experience (preferably for the U.K., Hong Kong, Singapore, and Brazil). If the candidate does not have this experience, s/he must have the aptitude and desire to quickly become entrenched in the details.
Required skills include:
-Finance, accounting, and/or tax background (work experience and/or education)
-Power user of Excel
-Results orientation and ability to work outside normal business hours, as required (e.g., during audits, for international purposes, etc.)
-Excellent verbal communication skills and writing skills – must have the ability to communicate processes and other details in a clear, logical fashion
