Payroll Specialist

Position Description:
Positions in this function are responsible for design and operational plans to manage our Human Resources operations including payroll processing. Addresses strategic and tactical issues pertinent to delivery of Human Capital services. Oversees the operations of the Human Resources Service Center, which maintains records and provides general assistance through first-line delivery of information, customer service and administrative support to incoming questions. Directs provision of information, issue resolution on HR-related topics, and supporting HR technology and services. Develops, maintains and delivers tools and processes related to employee HR/Payroll data, reporting, payroll tax and accounting, and contingent workforce information. Provides requirements, guidance and support to Corporate Systems for technical and functional HR systems modifications. Manages various vendors in support of operations.
Specialist will be using a case management tool and PeopleSoft Payroll application the majority of day to investigate approximately 40 payroll issues as day such as late entry of hours or incorrect hours entered into Time Attendance system, PTO balances, name changes, verification of employment letters, direct deposit issues, deduction and tax issues, etc…, and then communicate to employee and or management outcome of case, and appropriate actions that will be taken.
Position Responsibilities:
- Respond to inquiries from employees and managers
- Research and resolve payroll questions in a high volume multi-state, multi-company PeopleSoft environment
- Records caller inquiries and requests using case management tools
- Escalates complex cases to appropriate resource if additional research or expertise is required
- Uses procedures, policy manuals, knowledgeable tools and/or other reference materials to assist in resolving inquiries or issues
- Recognizes unusual events or consistent problem areas and works with management to resolve arising issues
- Suggests methods to update, simplify, and enhance processes, procedures, and technologies
- Process Job Data changes as needed
- Process Time Labor corrections as needed
- Monitor direct deposit processing and reject processing.
- Completes verification of employment forms, and other wage statement requests
- Performs or participates in special payroll projects requiring research and analysis of payroll
- Assist manager with acquisition initiatives related to payroll and employee integration
- Recognize and adhere to proper segregation of duties, Sarbanes-Oxley controls and internal self audits
- Knowledge of garnishments, child support, IRS levies etc as administered by vendors or internal staff
- Knowledge of payroll transactions associated with general accounting principles, union contracts and audit requirements.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of employees
- Troubleshoot and work with Payroll Team on all Payroll or HR Status related questions
- Support of business initiatives as assigned by manager
- PeopleSoft Payroll application version 8.9 or higher experience a must. Large company/high volume experience a must

Requirements:
- HS Diploma/GED
- 3+ years experience in high-volume customer service/call center/other high volume environment
- Any Multi-state payroll experience
- 2+ years PeopleSoft Payroll version 8.9 or higher not PeopleSoft Financial
Assets:
- Certified Payroll Professional or Fundamental Payroll Certificate
- Experience with gross to net payroll calculation
- Experience with Federal and or State Wage and Hour requirements and taxation
- Experience with benefit taxation requirements
- Experience with SOX audit controls
