Payroll Supervisor
Primary Purpose:
The purpose of this role is to monitor the Payroll system and related activities and address any issues as they arise. This role supervises employees engaged in the preparation, documentation, and disbursement of the organization’s payroll and payroll taxes.
Major Responsibilities:
- Monitors the day-to-day activities of the clerical staff engaged in the accurate and timely preparation, documentation, and distribution of the organization’s payroll and payroll taxes.
- Maintains individual payroll records.
- Prepares or supervises the preparation of W-2 forms, tax filings for federal withholdings, unemployment taxes, etc.
- Supervises or compiles, calculates, and posts payroll data to payroll records.
- Investigates and reconciles errors; approves adjustments.
- Directly sup workflow.
- Assigns, monitors and reviews the progress and accuracy of assigned work.
- Ensures the consistent application of organization policies.
- Monitors the effectiveness of systems, policies and procedures and makes appropriate recommendations to ensure daily operations are efficient; implements approved changes.
- Estimates personnel needs and ensures adequate staffing in order to meet pre-established completion dates.
- Conducts performance evaluations; recommends salary adjustments; schedules and approves overtime; takes disciplinary action, as necessary; etc.
- Ensures budgetary compliance.
- Handles unusual or difficult inquiries/situations through direct personal action or refers to the appropriate individual.

Skills/Knowledge Required:
- Demonstrated experience in payroll processing
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Ability to present results and issues to senior management with clarity and precision

- Strong leadership and staff development skills
- Strong interpersonal skills

Education and Experience:
- Associate’s degree in accounting or finance preferred
- Minimum of 4 years accounting or finance experience required; payroll experience preferred
