Overall Summary:
Under general direction, the Payroll Tax Analyst manages the overall payroll tax compliance in a multi-state and multi-company environment. The Payroll Tax Analyst is responsible for the timely and accurate delivery of filings as regulated by the federal, state and local tax authorities. This position also provides accounting and project management support to Finance and PeopleFirst.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
(40%) Payroll Tax Management
- Reconcile and fund weekly and quarterly tax deposits
- Reconcile and resolve open balances with our external 3rd party tax vendor
- Monitor tax liabilities and submit manual payroll when necessary
- Manage wage adjustments and file W2C if necessary
- Support Payroll Manager including preparation of documents and follow-up on deliverables
- Coordinate periodic Expat and Foreign National payroll processing and the disbursement of funds
- Review workflow and document work procedures
(40%) Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure payroll processes are consistent and in compliant with legal requirement and company policies
- Update Accounting on any changes affecting the accrual of payroll taxes and resolve related issues
- Perform scheduled PeopleSoft Tax Updates and assist with testing, maintenance and implementation
- Issue W2Cs and prepare 941 and Unemployment Amendments
- Assist Payroll Manager with tasks associated with Quarter End and Year End reporting processes including W2s, tax filings, reporting and reconciliation of payroll taxes with our external 3rd party tax vendor and various governmental agencies
- Prepare, submit and maintain all phases of payroll tax filings and related reports
- Prepare and maintain standard ad hoc report, queries and conduct audits to ensure data integrity and adequate internal controls
(10%) Tax Data Maintenance
- Manage team member tax data setup in PeopleSoft
- Respond to team member tax compliance issues
- Assist with projects related to payroll tax compliance
(10%) Payroll Processing
- Serve as backup to Payroll Manager for payroll processing needs
- Cross train on all areas of Payroll to assist with weekly payroll processes as needed
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Accounting or equivalent experience required
Certified Payroll Professional American Payroll Association preferred
Minimum 3 years experience with the Payroll Tax function
Knowledge of payroll and accounting practices and principles
Excellent organization and communication skills
Proficient with Microsoft applications
PeopleSoft knowledge a plus but not required
Strong problem solving and decision making skills
