PC/LAN Intermediate

The purpose of this position is to coordinate the administrative activities required to support moderately complex Local Area Networks (LAN), including configuration, training, installation, maintenance, support and documentation of hardware/software logs and operating procedures. Essential Functions: - Installs new PC/LAN hardware and software. Obtains and configures official network names and numbers as needed. Administers and supports gateway devices. Coordinates hardware and software changes and upgrades to servers, gateways and workstations. Monitors server performance, network capacity and security issues. Perform tech refresh. Support telecommuters remotely. - Work with local KPIT to tech refresh existing and out of date desktops and laptops. Imaging hardware using the SAT tool. Maintain all printers, faxes, and copiers in the department. An understanding of Active Directory, even though NCAL CCA is under CS domain. - Work with KPIT on quarterly OCR and workflow application upgrades. Ensure workstations are compatible with the new changes. - Maintains and trouble-shoot hardware and software problems. Maintains and updates server backup, workstation configuration and PC/LAN documentation. Coordinates basic user administration (adds, changes, deletes, disk space management, backups and file restores). - Determines training needs of end users. Coordinates classes. Acts as liaison with outside vendors. Maintains inventory of all hardware and software in a particular department. Conducts audits on existing software to verify authorized use and possible. Qualifications: Basic Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related discipline or 4 additional years of equivalent work experience. - Minimum of 3 years in information systems technology - Previous experience in LAN and data communication fundamentals, telecommunications network installation/operation and various software, as required. - Proficient with IBM compatible microcomputers. - Strong analytical ability and interpersonal skills to communicate with clients, other IT staff and vendors. - Ability to prioritize multiple problems within mainframe network, PCs and LANs to reduce disruption to users. - Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
