A licensed Pharmacy Technician with third party insurance claim experience in Columbus, OH

POSITION SUMMARY
Under direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, prepares, packages, and distributes medications; performs clerical duties related to the operation of a pharmacy; and performs other related duties as required.

ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS OF THE JOB

  • Selects drugs from stock for preparation; counts, pours, or mixes pharmaceuticals; places pharmaceutical products in appropriate containers and affixes labels to containers; packages and repackages pharmaceuticals to other clinics
  • Monitors prescription inventory for expired pharmaceuticals that must be returned to manufacturer
  • Receives prescriptions and obtains information from patients at pharmacy window to determine insurance eligibility; using a computerized system, enters prescription data to create a patient profile
  • Answers telephones and takes messages for patient refill requests and related pharmacy business
  • Responsibility of maintaining medication inventory at acceptable levels
  • Helps to maintain the pharmacy in a clean and orderly condition
  • Provides excellent customer service to all patients and medical professionals via phone or in person
  • Ability to preserve confidentiality of protected health information (PHI)
  • May be assigned to maintenance of pharmacy filing systems (hard copy, signature logs, invoices).
  • May be assigned to prepare and track delivery instructions and invoices to assist delivery staff and common carriers responsible for home or office delivery
  • ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • National certification and state licensure current and in good standing
  • A minimum of one year of retail pharmacy experience preferred
  • Knowledge of common medical terms/abbreviations and pharmacy calculations
  • Knowledge of insurance and third-party billing systems
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time and work in front of a computer screen
